Like many (if not most) of you, I call and text friends when it would be just as easy to talk to them directly. Like, say, when they’re in the same building or in the same room, as in today’s strip. The Cornfather’s counterpart, Michael Cornacchia and I will text each other while sitting on the same couch, either because we’re too lazy to speak or because texting has become our primary means of communication.
But back to today’s strip – I rarely watch video on my iPhone, but when I do, I can be assured someone will call me sometime during the duration of the program. This happens even if I haven’t received a call for hours. Or days. In fact, if I feel like talking to somebody, I’ll start playing a video just because I know it’ll trigger someone to interrupt it. People have a sixth sense about these things.
*evil laugh of doom*
Oh, Michael’s so dead!
*runs away laughing madly*
i believe these are yours, Sonitan: 😎
HA!!!
First!!!!!
bwuahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
…
Meh, you figured that perhaps Jef was giving gifts or something for the way people “die” to post first than nobody else. Perhaps they get no sleeps and keep refreshing their browsers to see if the newest strip is already up?
(I ask this ’cause that’s what I just did today! *evil laugh of doom* I couldn’t sleep ;___; Sometimes I got sleepless nights. They suxs I’m telling ya).
…
At least this time it got me the much admired FIRST!!
*evil laugh of doom*
*crawls under bed cover to finally get some much needed sleep*
Night.
is this your first time first, Sonitan? nah… maybe? well, congrats!
believe me, i know what it’s like not to be able to sleep so i feel your “sleepless nights.” definitely sux. glad today’s strip was able to provide you with something to do while you’re waiting for ZZZs to come! 😉
night!
*crawls out of bed to reply*
I believe that I was “first” once before, jef.
Meh.
The refresh button was THIS close to have a fit if I pressed it one more time.
*LOL*
*crawls back to bed*
The last panel is adorable!!!
I love their expressions.
I want to hug them both!!!!
8D <— insane laugh of doom
thanks, glad you liked ’em! and know that jefbot and the Cornfather are open for hugs any time. 😉
ddduuuddeee, i SERIOUSLY hate when I’m playing Words with Friends or some other game and someone calls me… I often just hit decline and call em back. I’m a jerk, I know. lol.
i do that all the time, too, Joenis! nothing worse than getting into the groove on Bejeweled Blitz (or yes, WWF or even PvZ) and then someone rudely interrupts with a call. i think hitting Decline is better than answering angry. 🙂
Haha. True that.
You know what’s even worse? You know how the decline button is FOR WHATEVER REASON first? Sometimes when I legitimately WANT to answer the phone I totally cancel it. And you know that the person on the other side KNOWS that you just declined because their call is “forwarded to voicemail” instead of the other option, and it also only rang for them once. haha
“Michael Cornacchia and I will text each other while sitting on the same couch, either because we’re too lazy to speak or because texting has become our primary means of communication.”
That’s…really sad and so LA. Maybe more “so California”? IDEK. I’m not the person to ask about Bay culture except for the fact that most of us know our computer sh*t inside and out.
Oh, you iPhoners. What’s so wrong with a perfectly serviceable phone that does what it’s supposed to – call and text – without fuss? Although there is much to be said for some of the apps out there, those are available on iTouches, too.
besides which, droids are better
edit:
besides which, droids are better😛
not startin’ a flame war, here.
while Michael and i do text all the time, i was being a bit tongue-in-cheek saying he and i text each other while we’re both on the couch. sure, we do it, but it’s usually ‘cuz we realize how ridiculous it is. 🙂
and yes, not to start a flame war either, MM, but i have been looking at some of the Android OS phones out there and it does look like they’re getting close to all the features of the iPhone. i’ll be comparing and contrasting features and apps before i decide to buy something like an Evo or Incredible or pick up the iPhone 4. i’m not a mac fanboy so i’ll get whichever one has the coolest tech!
… You guys seriously need to get lost in the woods withut electricity. Texting from the same couch at the SAME TIME? Im speechless.
Unfornatelly Im about to be lost in similar way, so you will have to do for some time without my consatnt nagging and prodding of your consience and motives and quirks. Sad, isnt it?
they would just tweet about the woods 😀
darn forest didn’t have any cell towers near, Eddie! (and i was tweeting before we lost our phone connection. heheh.) go figure.
done. my sister and i were lost in the redwood forest last summer for an entire day, Maryz, without cell service, minimal water and losing light, fast. it was seriously just willpower that kept us moving our legs, hiking over rough terrain, until we made it to a road and walked miles back to a ranger station.
i’ll miss the nagging! have fun! 🙂
Ha! I love it, bot. Very funny. I especially love the way you draw things on the iPhone. Super cool, man. But for the record, I didn’t even know HOW to text message til I met you. So all of my texting addiction is because “I learned it from watching you, all right!!!”. You’re an enabler, bot. In fact, I should start calling you, Enabot! 😉 Again, another stellar strip, bot.
HAHAHAHAHAHA! Love the reference!
this is your brain. this is your brain on texting, MC. any questions? 😉
Enabot sound so wrong. sounds like a robot thay gives Enema.
Love Bots face in the last pic 😀
thanks, Eddie! 😀
I know that most of the responses have been shock that you text people in the same room… but I have to admit that I do it, too! I just returned from an 18 hour car ride to Florida, and my co-pilot and I texted each other from the same car, the entire way there, and the entire way back.
I think it’s just kind of amusing, these days. At first, for me, it was out of pure laziness, now I’m just being cheeky 😉
exactly, Kate! pretty much whenever friends and i text in the same room, we’re doing it to be, as you say, “cheeky.” that said, you and your friend texting in the same car is pretty awesome! even the best of friends can get on each other’s nerves on a road trip and i think communication by texting is a great way to prevent that! maybe? 😉
Oh, I do that. a lot. I have unlimited minutes anyway.
And I don’t know many people with iPhones, so it’s fine. It’s a great way to deal with people in classes, especially if the professor’s scary strict, haha.
i can only imagine the number of kids in school getting busted for texting while in class, Jaeh. i used to be so awesome texting with my old nokia – i wouldn’t even have to look at the screen to type – i could do it all by feel. was awesome. 🙂
OMG my husband does this when he is in the living room and I am in the bedroom. We’re a WALL APART fer cripes sake. The furry babies hold him down I just know it.
Love the strip…per usual.
My friends and I will text each other in the same room/standing right next to each other if we are, well…talkin smack. Now we don’t do it often, but if someone is showing thier a$$, it’s so ON!
heheh. well i suppose texting is better than shouting from the other room, Pixie! 🙂
and as far as smack-texting goes, i’m always paranoid i’m going to accidentally send the message to the wrong person. like, the person i’m talking smack about. which would be bad.
happened to me once. >> I was pissed off that day, not feeling well, then I saw a text message from someone I didn’t have in my contacts, inviting me somewhere. Thinking it was yet another text message spam, I sent back a snarky and mean message.
turned out it was a friend. >> could do nothing but apologize profusely, heh.
HA! Dude – I can SO relate! 😉
sweet! 😀
I love jefbot’s face in the last panel. I can see the craziness welling up inside of him. I think he needs his TV back quickly.
thanks, Sharra! the craziness is definitely bubbling beneath the surface of jefbot’s delicate psyche; leave it to the Cornfather to draw it out. 🙂
It’s like mountain climbing. We use the technology because it’s THERE!
so true, Stan. 🙂
Hahahaha…i know this phenomenon all too well…
Its a scientific fact that someone will call you when you choose not to be interrupted.
yes, there must be some sort of formula for this phenomenon, Charles.
So funny! People always text me right in the middle of an excellent song on my “Gym” playlist!!! It sucks because it ruins my stride! AMAZING artwork on this one! Rock on Jefbot!
thanks, Funnyshaffer! aint nothin’ gonna break-a-my-stride… well, except for ill-timed phone calls, that is. 😉
Now that’s just plain rude.
isn’t it tho, Z?
awesome strip bot. and it was mean of you to lie to me T.T. I text people in the same room to get their attention XD
ha! sorry for the lie – i couldn’t resist. 😉
How are shiny!pichu and arceus doin?
Okay, MAYBE I can understand texting to the other end of the couch if you were doing it to avoid interrupting the TV and couldn’t wait for a commercial, but I strongly suspect that it does not reflect good mental health. 🙂
Also, you have some serious Sad-Puppy going on with the Cornfather, nice.
ha! agreed: texting can be appropriate during a tv program, but only at certain times. there needs to be rules, Skeptible!
and i think “sad puppy” is my favorite Cornfather emotion to draw. 🙂
Wash your car it will rain… yawn and other people yawn. And now added to the list is call Jefbot and interrupt a movie.
Time to test the theory. Now, where is that number..?
i have now blocked your number, 11TN. at least until i get my tv back. 😉
I love bot’s face in the last panel. xD This one’s great.
glad you liked it, Nat! you should see me do that face in real life.
I have to say that’s one of the perks of not using your phone as your TV….you don’t get calls on a PSP or an iPod touch (or is it just the iTouch). Anyways, this strip is great. Love the Bot’s eyes in the last panel. I totally get the same look on my face when i get a call as I’m watching a movie.
i was looking forward to Hulu and Netflix on my iPhone, Eptha, but now i’m kinda dreading it. time to dig out that PSP…
glad you liked the strip! next time you do the face, take a picture and send it to me. 😉
awsome comics came across it about 4 hours ago havent stopped reading til i cme to the end!!! i love this comic n you!! HUGS FOR ALL
sorry havnt slept in 2 days makes me little mad
i’m happy you found my comic awesome, ellie! and thanks for reading all the previous strips, too – which is a great use of time during bad bouts of insomnia, i’ve found. 🙂
i know lots of people who i need to tell “its Gojira, not Godzilla, there’s a difference”. love CF’s face… looks like my dog when he’s hungry 😀
keep up the great work 🙂
glad you say “Gojira” too, Leithal! i find it’s much more fun to say than “Godzilla,” especially when you scream it at your TV (or cellphone, as the case may be.) 😀
This happens to me, but when I’m working on something in Photoshop. A girl can hardly get her artsy fartsy on!
you’re absolutely right, Foxmouse: girls should not be denied getting their “artsy fartsy” on! 😀
hahaha. yes iphone 3 series are a bit light on the battery. thats why i turn the aeroplane mode when i game or watch a movie on my iphone. BTW. i havent got a macbook. cant seem to find anyone selling it. if they do sell it the price would be out of my reach.
good call, jf#300 – i used to go “airplane mode” on my iPhone when playing games and such, but found i would forget to turn it off once i was done. so now i don’t mess with it because i can’t trust myself.
the resell price for macbooks does tend to stay pretty high. i’ll keep an eye and ear out, just in case.
next thing you know you’ll have a universal remote, sitting outside the neighbor’s house and controlling their tv so you can watch what you want.
if i get arrested for peeping into my neighbors’ houses and apartments, it’ll be your fault, t_d!
wouldn’t be the first i got someone else arrested. i live in the south sowe had many a night of “hey ya’ll…watch this!!!”
You know it’s funny but I don’t have this issue…. I’m a freak I know. I just ignore skype calls on the computer actually, I’m in the middle of a game/movie I am FAR too busy to SPEAK to someone….
okay maybe I do have this issue but on a different level…
HA! you are getting clooooser JB
battery rage, truly the next plague of humanity, riight after politicians.
Aw! CF’s just hungry, Jefbot!
Fix him some movie food, and some for yourself too!
Popcorn fixes everything.
Haha! Yes! It never fails me as well! I’m listening to some music on my phone, and like a moth to a flame; someone always calls right in the middle of a good song. It makes me stop and wonder what happened to my phone, up until the phone actually starts ringing. (Which at times can take at least 5 seconds for the ringtone to start up.) That last panel was pure gold with those facial expressions. Love it!
Good one. This made me think of the first time I saw e-mail. I was in grad school and I couldn’t understand why one of my friends was going to e-mail his advisor. I mean, wasn’t he going to see his advisor later??? *NOW* I understand. Then, not so much.
