So I hope today’s JEFbot has given you some costume options should you be seeing The Avengers this weekend. While my friends and I normally don’t dress up beyond wearing appropriately-themed t-shirts, I will say that I do have some Spidey undies that will be more-than-likely accompanying me to the theater this weekend. Just sayin’.
So how ’bout you all? Do you get dressed up for event movies? Having met more than a few of you at conventions, I know many in the BOTreadership like to cosplay, so I’d imagine there are those who will be fully decked out in Asgardian garb, green paint, red and gold armor, black leather or a red, white and blue uniform for The Avengers. “Assemble” your thoughts in the comments!
Underoos for adults!
woo! i used to love my underoos, Brad L.! i’m actually kinda glad Target started selling these “novelty superhero underwear” for adults – it would’a been a bit creepy and awkward for me to be buying underoos at my age.
and check you out: two Firstings in a row! which means you get another pair of the Shades of Firsting! wear them well – these are purple and horn-rimmed, in case you want to go as Hawkeye to the movie this weekend:
😎
I have only one (awesome) themed clothing item: a pair of boxer briefs with the Lovecraftian Elder Sign. While it might protect my crotchal area from Elder Gods, it’s not Avengers appropriate.
those are awesome, Brad L.! but yes, not Avengers-appropriate, sadly. too bad Guillermo didn’t get to make his At the Mountains of Madness, film. you would’ve been set!
I have a bunch of superhero shirts my wife gets me at Wal-mart and target. I have an Avengers shirt I’m wearing tomorrow when I see the movie, I wore a nice Captain America shirt when I saw that movie, sadly I didn’t have a good Thor shirt when that one came out but, I have like three Spider-man shirts I can wear for that movie later this year.
No Batman shirts either, hmmm, might have to change that.
Also, not sure if it was intentional but I love the placement of the Shield for the underwear. Seems I’d want an indestructible shield right about there.
The hammer looks like boasting, and the spider is like a warning.
the Spidey ones are pretty much like the ones i have, E. A., but yeah, i totally made up the Mjolnir undies. heheh.
That reminds me… Local radio station here was giving away advanced screening tickets, and the trivia question was: What was the name of Thor’s hammer? Got some pretty interesting butcherings on the pronunciation. Stuff like “Moljing” with a hard j.
arrgh! by odin’s beard! i bet a bunch of the listeners just googled the answer, E. A., so didn’t know how to pronounce it.
I’m just curious what’s on the Iron Man pair (like the yellow/red behind the Thor pair). I’d guess the Hulk pair has a giant green fist, which would be a little… odd. But would the Iron man have an Arc reactor, or the Iron Man mask?
I don’t know much about Thor (didn’t really read his cocims) but since Ashley Miller and Zach Stentz wrote it, I have faith that it will be good. They wrote some of the best episodes of both Terminator SCC and most recently Fringe. Dennis
i have a bunch of superhero shirts too, TPC. i don’t have one with The Avengers specifically, but i figure wearing Spidey (plus the Spidey underwear) makes me an honorary Avenger. and i have a ton of Batman shirts that i got around the time Tim Burton’s Batman came out. fortunately, they still fit!
i didn’t even make up the shield placement on the undies – Target actually sells a pair almost exactly like the ones in the strip. 🙂
Definitely Scrawn power at work there JB, I can’t believe that those shirts still fit I mean Tim Burton’s Batman was in the early nineties iirk
Nerd culture in brief(s)!
ha! good one, E. A.! 😀
EXcellent!
I’m wearing elbow pads tonight, the better to defend my armrest in the theater.
smart move, Sarah W. – theaters are so filthy, your elbows could probably use the protection, too.
I just came home from seeing The Avengers. I am going to go see this movie as many times as humanly possible.
It is that good.
saw it on saturday, Sarah W! and i’m right there with ya – i’m considering which friends haven’t seen it yet so i can take them. 🙂
There was someone dressed as Nick, with him was Black Widow, there was a rather pathetic-looking Thor (WAY too skinny) and for some reason, someone was dressed as Wolverine (the costume didn’t even fit him, it didn’t even close at the back).
sounds like you’re describing the “superheroes” that patrol hollywood blvd in front of the Chinese theater looking for tips for photo ops, KB; there are a few guys in “Superman” and “Spider-man” costumes that are either too big or too small to do them justice.
LOL! It was just like going to a Con! People with the wrong body shape/look trying to be a fave character. If I were to cosplay you or the ‘Father, I’d have to go with CF. I’m not skinny enough to be you. No offense. Frankly, I prefer costumes that cover up most of the distortions (kinda like what Whoopi said in ‘Sister Act’ about the Habit. “It’s fine for covering a little bulge…”)
At Halloween parties, I’ve seen average sized people dressing up as small things like mice and spiders and large things like Godzilla or King Kong so I don’t think size or body type is really an issue when cosplaying. The only time I considered this was when I considered going to a convention dressed as Jade from Mortal Kombat. This was on the grounds of obsenity because I’m a man and Jade wears a skin tight suit. I’m sure there’s a method to hide a man’s “package” but I’m not sure what that is. It was a moot point because I didn’t have the time or materials to work on a costume anyway.
My first time making a costume for a con was for JACON here in Fla. I went as a Pokemon trainer. Had a badge case, made the badges, had my 1st Gen. Pokedex, I even made a belt with pokeball holding capability (they kept dropping off the hooks I had) with 6 pokeballs. I had a backpack with my Pikachu plushie sticking out (sort of, he kept falling inside). EPIC FAIL! I did see someone dressed as a member of Team Rocket (generic member, not specific). She had made her pokeballs out of doorknobs stuck through a belt and locked in place with screws. THEY never fell off.
if i were to cosplay, i think i’d go as a poketrainer, too, KB. then i’d have to get the Cornfather to dress up as snorlax. heheh.
ya know, i’m not sure what that method of “packing” is either, Rainey. i hear there’s a way of “tucking” but i can’t see how that’s done without injuring and/or squishing some sensitive bits. 😉
heheh. i’m probably not skinny enough to be “me” anymore, KB! i’m still semi-thin, but i don’t have nearly the Scrawn powers of bot at the moment. 🙂
I’ve never been one to dress up for the movies, but sometimes I think it’d be fun. I think the best part of todays strip is your expressions in the last panel. I crack up everytime I see it.
the cosplayers at conventions have so much fun dressing up that i feel like i have to go all out in a superhero or anime costume someday, 52pickup!
and thanks for noticing the expressions! when i first penciled the strip, they all had different expressions, but i changed them at the last minute, cuz it just cracked me up with them all sharing the same look. 🙂
The looks on the faces in the last panel sells this one. Great work, bot.
thanks, Striker! that was a last minute decision to have them all share the same expression, so i’m glad you dug it. 🙂
I dressed up for HP7pt 2 (: but other than that I haven’t really been in fandom to participate
Maybe I’ll dress up for A Sea of Monsters when it comes out 😛
i’ve dressed up for HP too, dj (if you can call wearing glasses, a scarf and a black long coat as dressing up.) wished i had made or bought a wand, though. and i remember reading A Sea of Monsters when The Lightning Thief movie came out, and liked it even more than the first one. have they officially green-lit the movie yet?
btw, i love your gravatar. who is it? i’m only a few episodes into the MLP series and she doesn’t look familiar. related to applejack, maybe?
I do agree, the faces in the last panel are priceless!
Also, they don’t have any cool adult underoos for women, which sucks. The ones that I have found are highly disturbing and strange.
I have Batman Panties that I bought. They’re cute. so they do exist. I think.
🙂
thanks, CJ! glad you like them faces. 🙂
and, yes – i’m not sure if there are many “cool adult underoos for women” but i can attest to seeing ones that are “highly disturbing and strange” at many of the conventions i’ve been to. *shudder*
Saw it on tuesday, got so excited on Monday night that I ended up making an Iron Man vector that I ended up putting on a shirt for the movie:
http://forsakenrandomness.tumblr.com/post/22155341402/ironmanvector
It’s always nice to see people geeking out at the movie theater
BTW the movie is awesome!!! Hope you enjoy it bot!
totally enjoyed it, f_f! probably my favorite of the Marvel movies, so far. awesome iron man artwork for that shirt, btw!
I’ll be honest. I didn’t like Thor, Hulk or Captain America movies, but Avengers totally blew my mind and Hulk totally stole the show!
Woo hoo. Avengers weekend is finally here! And yes, Sean Luke does have the Captain America undies clean and ready for Saturday! Assemble!!!
the Avengers and the underoos were, indeed, assembled! woo!
Wow. Way to take me back. I used to LOVE wearing my Superman underoos when I was a kid. Always made me feel ultra confident. Maybe I need to invest if a pair of adult underoos. Wear then on dates. POW!!!
Hopefully, you’d also be wearing other clothes.
or not. either way.
yep, i had the Superman underoos, too, Saeed! those and a red sheet or tablecloth fastened around my neck were all i needed to be faster than a locomotive and leap tall buildings in a single bound! as for wearing them on dates… hmmm. you try it and let me know how it goes. 🙂
Too funny! I don’t think I’ve ever owned or worn superhero undergarments. Not really something marketed much to little girls. My nephew has tons of underoos and pajama sets like that…hmmm, I may have to go poke around the men’s underwear section and see if I can’t find something…”comfy” to wear when I eventually scrape together the money to have a film weekend. 😀
heheh. i’m sure you’ll find more than one salesperson to help you out with that, Tiana! 😉
now that i think about it, my sister Laura/Lor had a pair of Supergirl and possibly Wonder Woman underoos. i’m not entirely sure they had Marvel superheroines, but i seem to remember Spider-Woman and She Hulk ones too, though those might only exist in my mind.
Destiny is making Brian L.’s victories shoved in my face…
Yet again, my bookmark has failed me!
~
I think I have a few shirts here and there… But they’re all Spider-Man, (my favorite hero). Although he’s a New Avenger so he doesn’t count. I never actually went cosplaying, or at least dressing up with themed clothing for a movie. It’s a new idea to me. The only cosplaying I’ve seen in person was some anime cosplayers… in a grocery store.
It was ridiculous seeing a bunch of strangely awesome dressed people with giant swords and vivid pink hair, while you go pick up some detergent off the shelf. It would have made a little more sense in the department store a floor up, but, whatever.
I actually already watched The Avengers, last April 30. But it was strange listening to the radio, the dj’s saying that you can watch the realtime screening on April 26. But all the posters I’ve seen say May 4! Strange, strange…
Last thing to say… SERIOUSLY?! (I know the answer already) Underwear?!
This is shocking for me! Especially that others are relating to this! Because shirts are the big deal here… so… hmph, you get what I mean.
There you have it, my first long
I guess it was too long, I forgot to type comment.
Hey Shadow, it’s pure luck, really. I got one pair of Firstings several strips ago, with intention, and that really stressed me out. I decided not to compete for them any more so as not to spoil my pure enjoyment of the strip. I’m an East Coaster and Jeff has been kind enough to post the last two strips at the beginning of my lunch break. With the site as my first stop, I’ve just been lucky.
Well, that’s nice.
I’m not angry or anything, just sort of joking about that I can’t get the shades. 😀
yep, Brad L. speaks truth – my posting schedule can get pretty erratic, so luck does play into getting the Shades!
Spider-Man’s my favorite hero, too, ShadowShuffler, and i probably have more shirts of him than any other character. (well, my Batman tees might give Spidey some competition.) and i say, even as a New Avenger, he counts. it would seriously blow my mind if they could get all the legal stuff out of the way and have Spider-Man make an appearance in the next Avengers. *drool*
and, yep: seriously! i wore my Spidey underwear proudly to the theater (with pants on, of course.) been trying to get some Cap/Hulk/Thor/Iron Man ones, but they’ve been sold out at Target for the past few weeks.
Okay, what the heck is going on?! For some reason my computer is stuck on showing your page as not updating since the page announcing going to that last convention! I had to go to archives and page ahead to this month to get the current page… I dunno, maybe the interweb spirits are mad at me. Any-who, the Avengers rocked, yes? And was that *WARNING, SPOILER* Thanatos, or am I mistaken?
not sure what’s up with your computer, Oz – i’m hoping it’s not a problem with the BOTsite! (if anyone else is experiencing this error, please let me know.) hopefully you won’t have to sacrifice anything to the “interweb spirits” to get it working properly again. 😉
(and nope, you weren’t mistaken!)
Well, I just recently went through the archives for your webcomic and I have a question, will Cel ever return?
she will, Razmoudah! she’ll be in the next big storyline. 🙂
Awesome job, Jeff! The look on Bot, Cornfather, and Coolhand’s faces in the last panel made my week!
Dang straight!
woo! thanks, Skydron!
i’m happy to hear that, Soul Man! thanks! 😀
Hahaha best costumes at the show!
only no one but them (and Lor) will ever know, MrSnow! 😉
I’m wondering who is going as which character. Perhaps you haven’t decided either.
officially, bot’s got Hulk, Cornfather’s got Iron Man and Coolhand has Cap on, Rainey. 🙂
Hellllllooooooo BOTiverse! Those of you that have it, Chiller is showing Grey Skies tonight at Midnight! WATCH IT! You get to see our very own Jeffrey Schuetze aka Jefbot and Michael Cornacchia who is the inspiration for the Cornfather. And for bonus points, it’s AWESOME!
Ok so now that, that’s out of the way. HAHAHAHA I love the comic! You boys and your procrastination!
hey, thanks for the plug, Pixie! as if i don’t have enough reasons to hate my cable company, now i have to add “not carrying Chiller” to the list!
I’ve never been one to dress up to go see movies, mainly because I can’t afford it. Closest I came to going dressed up to a movie was when I went to a midnight premier of the Watchmen after getting off just before that from my fast food job. Went there in an apron and everything. Then came the scene inside the prison with the fry basket being used as a weapon. Suddenly everyone around me became rather uncomfortable and quiet. I don’t know why they would, I was the grill cook, not the fry boy lol
ha! i’m actually relieved, Skydron – when you mentioned Watchmen i thought your story was going to turn into how you painted yourself blue, and, um… well, you know. 😉
Lol. Nice Strip. Pun intended.
Anyway I go to watch the movie not to make spectacle out of myslelf. Cons are great oportunities for that in like-minded crowd. Cinema… not so much around here.
it seems that cosplay is getting more and more popular at the theaters here in L.A., Maryz. before, you might have seen people carrying lightsabers for the Star Wars movies, green panchos for Lord of the Rings, and robes and scarves for Potter, but now, pretty much every geeky film i go to has someone dressed up for the movie.
Just got home after watching it.
I wore my black Superman shirt, not because I prefer DC over Marvel or anything, just wanted to see if anyone would react to it.
Nobody did though D:
so what’d you think of The Avengers, Edd? pretty awesome, right? and at least you’re all prepared for when the new Superman comes out next year. or will you wear an Avengers shirt to that? 😉
At least you’re not wearing them outside your pants, right?
believe me, i thought about it, Silver C. but thankfully, reason won out, and i wore them hidden. felt like i was concealing my secret identity. 🙂
Hey just got finished reading your comic from start to now (your most recent publish) If you have no life like me this probably took you about 3 days. I see alot in common between you and me. And id love to play some video games with you, however I do not have a 3DS to add contacts to. I bailed on getting one and went with a NDS I XL. due to reviews about it making people’s eyes hurt. altho after seeing the quality on one of the one’s my friend got i regret this decision.
Id love to play with someone who enjoys video games as much as I do though.
Xfire Username: Heavycannontank
P.S. I hope your sister is well.
got so involved about commenting about video games forgot to comment about the current strip, Ive had countless costume parties with my friends, one time me and 2 of my friends went to see the three stooges together as people kinda see us as the three stooges. we kinda drove the people around us nuts though due to the way we act.
i’ve heard the Three Stooges movie is actually pretty good, Heavycannontank. would you recommend it? at this point, i should probably just wait for it to be On Demand or streaming.
I would recommend it actually, I couldn’t get my parents to see it cause they thought it would be extremely stupid. but that’s kinda the point when it comes to the three stooges. it may not be the best comedy there is but it definitely makes a passing score in the book.
hey, thanks for going through the BOTarchives from start to finish, Heavycannontank! it actually makes me happy that it took you three days; i remember when people could read my entire back catalog in less than hour. heheh.
i don’t have an xfire account – heck, i barely have time to get on my XBOX Live account anymore (xbox live id: JEFBOT) – but if you do end up picking up a 3DS in the future, let me know. it’s a pretty awesome system so far. can’t wait ’til they make a proper Pokémon game for it.
as for my sis: thanks! she’s still fighting! and can use all the good wishes, prayers and positive thoughts you can muster.
When we went to watch the Avengers, I wore the Iron-man shirt my girlfriend gave me for Christmas. I was the only one among my friends dressed accordingly. Much geek points were garnered because of it. I know you’ll love the movie JB
i did love the movie, Jiro! going to digest it a bit and then hopefully see it again soon. pretty miraculous they pulled it off as well as they did. and glad you had a fitting shirt to wear to the movie – i was hoping to get a Hulk tee before going, but my local comic shops were pretty much sold out of all their Avengers gear. life imitates art, i suppose. 🙂
Your expressions in the last panel are priceless. 8)
great to hear, Anime fan! glad you dug ’em. 😀
Love your secret naughty smiles in last panel! I actually enjoyed the movie way more than I thought I would…but then again I was with a fun group of peeps (although the kid behind us repeating “Is that the bad guy? Is that the bad guy?” over and over again made me was to shake a baby…)
i’m happy you approve of the naughty smiles, pearl! and, yeah – i should really make a strip about parents that take their noisy kids to inappropriate movies that spoil it for the rest of us. on some level, i’m sympathetic, but during a film like The Avengers, i just wanna go into a Hulk-sized rage when a kid’s talking nonstop throughout the movie.
Brilliant! I love how smug you guys are in the last panel! The look on your face is perfect!
I got to see the avengers today. Not many movies make me enjoy the action scenes more than the storyline. It’s just too bad that I don’t have a point of reference! Stupid being born in the late 1990’s.
Jefbot’s face in the second panel….
I want that on a button, and I want it on my shirt….now.
Underoos are fun to wear!
