While jefbot’s initial joust with the mutated bird thing looked promising, methinks he could use some help from his buddy Mu at this point. Just a thought.
yep, you did it, xaru! i believe this is your first Firsting? congrats! and you know what getting the first comment means – you just achieved the Shades of Firsting! wear them well – these have surface-to-air defenses against any flying beasties that may around:
😎
Yes, it is :D. Thank you :D. Sorry for the double comment, I had some internet issues. From the other side of the globe, Malta :). Keep up the good work! I love your comics 🙂
aww, thanks, xaru! glad you’re enjoying my little ol’ strip from the other side of the globe! that’s just awesome. give Malta my best! heheh. oh, and don’t worry about the double comment – i deleted one of ’em. 😀
Apart from “o shit o shit o shit” I also think there is a massive dose of wishing for his scarf. I’m also starting to think that maybe the scarf is behind all this XD transforming local fauna into MT. Dew fueled monstrosities.
ha! that would be quite the twist if the Scarf was behind all this, Orzahn! of course, i wouldn’t be surprised: Mtn Dew has been addling my brain for years – who knows what it’s doing to bot’s bundle of yarn. 😀
I’ve been away from my computer for a while or I’d have replied to your previous comment sooner. Anyway, it’s not impossible to judge distances if you can only see with one eye. You just need to know to look for clues such as apparent size and object clarity as well as measure with your field of view. My eyes don’t cooperate with each other so I’ve had “Cyclops” vision all of my life. That hasn’t stopped me from being able to judge distances. Also, people who have lost one of their eyes learn to do something similar to what I just described in order to judge distances. That being said, however, it would take some getting used to if you’re used to seeing with both eyes at the same time and I have no idea how long these creatures have lived with only one eye. Therefore, depth perception could still be a factor. Some people who can see with both eyes at the same time tell me it’s easier to judge distances with both eyes open than with one eye closed. I’ve never been able to see with both eyes at the same time so I have no choice but to take their word.
thanks for the info, Rainey! i figured this must be the case (being able to judge distances with one eye) since i can close one eye and still navigate through my surroundings (at least the familiar places) without bumping into things (mostly). in the case of the “mutant cyclops beasties” i would imagine they might be able to judge distance since they’re enhanced by “alien” tech after all. it’s possible that distance for them is judged by, perhaps, lasers within their eye and then that info is fed into their brain. again, thanks for letting us know your experience with these things!
thanks, Sarah W! i was initially trying to do it all within 3-4 panels and it just didn’t work, so i’m glad you like how the timing worked out with th 6-panel layout.
and your references are exactly what i was going for, so yay!
XD I love the pacing (correct wording?) of this particuar strip! XD I find the simplicity of facial expressions and the dashing out of the pannel, awesome! 😀 I love this comic and occasionally download strips from the archive to read again and again. XD I would sooo buy the book (is their one, I think there is?) of this if I had the money. XD
i’m happy you liked the pacing of this one, Insane Asylum! as i mentioned to Sarah W (above), this one took a little finessing to get the pacing right, so thanks for calling it out. i’m also happy to hear that you love the comic! there is a book (check it out here when you have the $) and i hope to have a Volume 2 before the end of the year. fingers crossed!
hey, it worked out for me 😉
Since I’m in MN, I highly doubt I’ll ever make it to the top of the list.
Maybe though…maybe.
I think it’s handy that the bad guys have red glowy arms, maybe Jefbot will notice that too
you never know, theBean – my schedule’s been pretty wonky lately due to getting merch and stuff ready for the Phoenix Comicon this coming week. comic will probably go up late tomorrow afternoon, so that might be your chance! 😉
and, yeah – baddies have the red glowy stuff. jefbot’s bound to notice if he hasn’t already, especially since Mu’s symbols glow white!
glad you liked that panel, Striker! it was one that would’ve gotten the axe if i had tried to condense this strip into fewer panels, but i just loved that transition so much, i had to leave it in. 🙂
I love how his “Wooo!” face fades right before he takes off. I’d be running too. That thing is creepy! Awesome action strip. I love the look of the “Brang!” panel.
If your shield were magical, you’d be like that idiot from the D&D cartoon, Eric the Cavalier (not much of a cavalier, didn’t even have a horse or lance), except for the whininess. Use a Shield Bash next JB! You can always grab another garbage can lid.
man, i haven’t seen that cartoon in SOooOOo long, KB! i used to love it. and yes, a “shield bash” probably would’ve helped in this situation, although i’m not sure how many more garbage lids he’ll find on the trail.
Then we’ll take care of your weapon! I cast greater magic weapon and permanency (from a scroll) and presto! You now have a +3 Light Steel Shield. I don’t know the spells to give it the bashing property, and this is only a quick fix, it can be dispelled, so be EXTRA CAREFUL with it! If we had the time, I’d make it permanent.
Damn, it’s been ages since I had time to get caught up on any comics, and when I do come back Jeffbot is fighting for his life. How’s that for entertainment.
I knew it! No offence, but BOT has not got any fighting skills, so his best option is probably to try to lose it in the forest. It might work, unless the scanning thing they did also made sure that they could track him down using some sort of GPS system.
Or, you know, it could fly up in the air, aim at BOT, and hawkattack (parrotattack?) him from the sky.
no offence taken, DAS! you’re right – jefbot better get out of there fast. though yes, it’s entirely possible that the creature is now “locked on” to bot after that scan. anyway, yes: RUN, BOT, RUN!
One should never drop their guard for celebration during battle unless they know that whatever was attacking them can’t do so anymore and that there isn’t something else nearby.
I do wonder whatever happened to Pixie. She poppoed in long enough to say hi and we haven’t heard from her since.
Hmm….Tuesday? No comic? Clearly this can only mean one thing…JEFBOT’S IN PERIL! THE REAL WORLD AND THE COMIC WORLD ARE COLLIDING! Everyone guard your pets and loved ones! Be on the lookout for scarves of an enraged nature! Also…ALIENS!
ha! thanks for the concern, y’all! leaving on wednesday (tomorrow! aagh!) for Phoenix and i’m swamped getting stuff ready. putting aside some time to (with some luck) finish up a strip and post it this afternoon!
First!!

Then I’ll blame it on an echolocation fail. 😉
These panels are beautifully timed, Jeff!
It’s almost a Han chasing stormtroopers moment, with just a bit of Big Trouble in Little China tossed in.
thanks, Sarah W! i was initially trying to do it all within 3-4 panels and it just didn’t work, so i’m glad you like how the timing worked out with th 6-panel layout.

I think this is the highest in the list I’ve ever been…so that warrants a post even though I have nothing to say…
woo! congrats on getting this high up on the list, theBean! heheh. strip went up late by a few hours cuz i was having internet probs. buh.
hey, it worked out for me 😉
Since I’m in MN, I highly doubt I’ll ever make it to the top of the list.
Maybe though…maybe.
I think it’s handy that the bad guys have red glowy arms, maybe Jefbot will notice that too
Perhaps glowing white means they can think like a human would.
based on Mu’s intelligence, that’s a good theory, ROM!
you never know, theBean – my schedule’s been pretty wonky lately due to getting merch and stuff ready for the Phoenix Comicon this coming week. comic will probably go up late tomorrow afternoon, so that might be your chance! 😉

JB: Crap crap crap.
JB: WOOOOOOooooooo…… Crap crap craaaaap!
Freaky Bird: OM NOM NOM NOM NOM!
ha! yeah, if there were word balloons in this one, they’d probably go something like that, Anime fan.
Oh bot… At least you tried…
Don’t be too quick to make that comment. Jefbot could be running to get a tree branch or a rock for all we know.
true that, Rainey. and if he were really lucky, he’d find a crossbow or broadsword behind a bush!
yeah, at least he started running after he stood up to that mutant beastie, ZodiacMage!
Apparently the power of scrawn is no good in a gladiatorial deathmatch with mutated pets.
i think you’re right, Descolada! heheh. and i think the Power of Scrawn works best in the city, and doesn’t have as much power in the semi-wilderness.
Hahaha oh bot why would you celebrate so early? Now run for your life!
indeed, f_f – he probably should’ve saved the “WOO!” for after he was sure that creature was down and out!
I like the transition of bot’s celebration in panel 3, to his sudden realization in panel 4, to going into full-out “Oh sh-” mode in panel 5.
glad you liked that panel, Striker! it was one that would’ve gotten the axe if i had tried to condense this strip into fewer panels, but i just loved that transition so much, i had to leave it in. 🙂
Not sure but I think it’s mad >>
Yes, possibly with both definitions of “mad”.
yup, yup.
i think you’re right, DJ! or maybe madder. 😉
Run away! Run away!
I love how his “Wooo!” face fades right before he takes off. I’d be running too. That thing is creepy! Awesome action strip. I love the look of the “Brang!” panel.
ha! i think “run away!” is bot’s only option at this moment, Shanna!
and so glad to hear you liked the melting away of his “WOO!” face between panels 3 and 4, since that’s pretty much my favorite part of the strip. 😀
Aha! Take that your nasty, evil bird thing!!
Woooooooo…… oh s@#%
your last sentence is pretty much the progression of emotions in this strip, TCG! heheh.
If your shield were magical, you’d be like that idiot from the D&D cartoon, Eric the Cavalier (not much of a cavalier, didn’t even have a horse or lance), except for the whininess. Use a Shield Bash next JB! You can always grab another garbage can lid.
man, i haven’t seen that cartoon in SOooOOo long, KB! i used to love it. and yes, a “shield bash” probably would’ve helped in this situation, although i’m not sure how many more garbage lids he’ll find on the trail.

sounds good, KB, thanks for the upgrade! now you just need to transfer that incantation from the comments to the actual comic! ;D
now, whats up with the funky mechanical chimney thing on the birds back? are those things cyborgs?
yep, they all have various alien tech implants, JBJ. (even Mu, though his aren’t as apparent.)
Damn, it’s been ages since I had time to get caught up on any comics, and when I do come back Jeffbot is fighting for his life. How’s that for entertainment.
yeah, things have changed a bit over the past couple months. heheh. welcome back, Noramil!
I knew it! No offence, but BOT has not got any fighting skills, so his best option is probably to try to lose it in the forest. It might work, unless the scanning thing they did also made sure that they could track him down using some sort of GPS system.
Or, you know, it could fly up in the air, aim at BOT, and hawkattack (parrotattack?) him from the sky.
heehee i’m sorry i just have to…
No offense… just DEFENSE!! hahah
~
I’m done here, thank you.
*clap clap clap clap*
🙂
no offence taken, DAS! you’re right – jefbot better get out of there fast. though yes, it’s entirely possible that the creature is now “locked on” to bot after that scan. anyway, yes: RUN, BOT, RUN!
Think this is one of my favorite strips now.
wow, thanks, GB! glad you dug this one so much! 😀
I played Garden Party ( http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/199965 ) while looking at the pics and for some reason they really fit.
heheh. very playful – if this strip was animated, i could hear that playing in the background if we were going for a slapsticky vibe, G.L.
This wasn’t half bad actually. Successful defence followed by tactical retreat.
well, if one looks at it that way, Maryz, i think you may be right!
One should never drop their guard for celebration during battle unless they know that whatever was attacking them can’t do so anymore and that there isn’t something else nearby.
I do wonder whatever happened to Pixie. She poppoed in long enough to say hi and we haven’t heard from her since.
after what happened here, i hope bot has learned that lesson, Fijiman!
and, yeah – i wonder about Pixie, too. i know she’s busy but i’ll probably Facebook her when i get back from Phoenix to see what’s up.
Four words for this strip, today’s strip anyway.
Bakaw
Brang
Booyah
Blarg
heh. i think that sums up this one pretty well, Pwd!
btw, i’m digging your avatar.
Word of advice, bot: Deflected ≠ Defeated. Just sayin…
true dat, r61 – hopefully bot will take that to heart if he survives this!
Blocking an attack doesn’t mean winning the fight. Better run faster Jefbot.
hopefully he can outrun that bird thing, GB!
*blocks*

OH MY GAAAAAAA–
MU! MU! MUSASHIIIII!
heh. yep, that’s pretty much what went down, ROM!
Run! (Made me laugh!) Love what you’re doing!
thanks, #1JF! glad this one got you laughing and happy you’re loving the strip! 😀
No Monday comic… This is not good…
WORSE! It’s Tuesdat and it’s still not here.

At least is will be the record for latest strip… I think.
Interesting tidbit! I found unofficial sequels for the Harry Potter series of books! They can be found at: http://www.jamespotterseries.com
hmmm… i wonder if they’re any good, KB?
Supposedly, it’s been endorsed by J.K. Rowling. If that’s not a good reference, I don’t know what is!
