Ever since I played Raiders of the Lost Ark on the Atari 2600 over at my friend’s house when i was a kid, I’ve been fascinated/terrified of being bitten by tsetse flies. In the game, if you were bitten by these bugs, you would be paralyzed for a few seconds, leaving you vulnerable to attack.
I know this fear is completely irrational as I don’t think there have been any occurrences of sleeping sickness being transmitted by tsetse flies reported in North America, but if you get bitten, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Well, at least you admit why you’re tired all the time. Although it is in a round about way. But Jefbot, I don’t think many geniuses have gotten the chance to sleep as much as they would like. Like you, they were too busy being geniusie. I love this strip. The body language, facial expressions, dialogue, and color are wonderful. With strips this good, no wonder you don’t get that much sleep.
Quite funny, i must say i do also get very tired sometimes from late night gaming sessions. Unfortunately for me the tsetse fly is probably a more real fear for me considering i live in Africa but i highly doubt it, i do still live in suburbia.
nicely done. dude, I think we all have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome….do people still have that?
Nicely done, Botman! With my favorite guys being paranoid of tsetse flies, kidney stones, and “leg cancer”, it’s a wonder *I* get any sleep at night… 😉 And your strip reminded me that I really want some kind of handheld gaming device!! (Then I could play at work in my currently nonexistent downtime!)
Funny…I fear tsetse flies, too! …but many Hawaiians, do.
I LOVE JEFBOT!!!
I love that, even though you can hardly stay awake, you still have the controller in your hand as you defend your prognosis! Outstanding once again Jefbot!
Man, that Raiders game was awful and awesome all at the same time. At least it was much better than ET. Nice job! (and Amber it’s ‘arm cancer’ thank you very much…I’ve felt bumps!!!)
michael cornacchia, thanks for the insane compliments. most of the people i know don’t sleep as much as they’d like. there really is just no time for sleep these days, as i’m sure many readers can attest, including yourself. my counterpart in the JEFBOT strip gets more game time than i do!!!
evilbelgian, are you sure your fatigue is related to your late night gaming sessions? might you be another victim of the dreaded tsetse fly (especially given your proximity to the source)!?
akira, yep, “chronic fatigue syndrome,” “sleeping sickness,” call it what you will, it’s going around and someone should find a cure before it’s too late.
amber, ha! “botman” made me laugh. 🙂 you should be making a mint off of us in counseling fees for all this “paranoia” going around! heheh.
janonymous, your fear is well-founded. and now i shall be canceling that trip to hawaii i was planning…
jeff payton, jefbot loves you, too! 😀
funnyshaffer, yes, the tsetse flies will have to pry the controller from my cold, dead, hand before i succumb to their sleeping sickness!
john, heh. pretty much any game was better than ET – and there’s a (mythical?) landfill in new mexico filled with ET cartridges to prove it!!! good luck with the arm cancer, i’ll keep an eye out for drowsy-looking flies.
Amazing artwork Jeff!!! Tsetse flies – hilarious!!!!!!!
I was bitten by a mesquito and i’ve been in a coma….
Hey man I love the comic and I want to link to it on my site. Do you have an affiliates button?
mary, thanks! that’s another one of the tsetse fly’s awesome powers – hilarity. it’s even fun to say their name (pronounced “teet-SEE”)!
partygirl, are you still in a coma? i hope you recover.
tystarr, sure, man. i’ll make you one. what size?
88×31 px.
Thanks man.
I seem to get bitten by the tsetse fly every time I travel. The sleeping sickness is real and particularly strong when time’s spent in Vegas.
I’ve been staying up late watching reruns of Star Trek:Deep Space Nine (which I get for free through my cable On-Demand service, Sweet Joy!!) and Working in the Theatre, awesome!
