I haven’t gone trick-or-treating since 7th grade. And my Halloween-themed activities since then have usually consisted of passing out candy to other trick-or-treaters. If someone plans a party, I may go to that, but I’m content with the former.
Good job with the comic, Jeff. Love the look on bot’s face in the last panel.
hey, Striker! while i increasingly go out to Halloween parties before the actual day hits, my normal modus operandi is to make a haunted house with my brother-in-law in his garage, then scare kiddies and give them candy. we’ve done it for so long now that it’s become something of a tradition in the neighborhood.
and check you out! you just claimed the Shades of Firsting. wear them well. these give the appearance of any sunglass-wearing-character when worn: The Terminator, Risky Business Tom Cruise, Roddy Piper in They Live, any of the Resevoir Dogs, you name it:
😎
No way! I’m totally going as Finn too! In fact i’m wearing like 90% of my costume now! And my wife is BMO. She’s been having fun running around our college campus wearing a box. Great comic as always!
ha! your wife running around the campus as BMO is awesome, Matt! and i figured Finn would be a popular costume this Halloween (it’s one of the most ubiquitous cosplays i’ve seen at conventions this year) but i didn’t see any in the neighborhood i was in. go figure.
i never would’ve thought i’d be more excited about Star Wars without Lucas’s involvement than with it, TPC, but here we are. can’t wait to see what Disney does with VII, VIII and IX! woo!
Well we sadly we don’t celebrate Halloween here. But the nightclubs always have great parties and costume related stuff, so I went like Jack the ripper XD
yes, i have discovered the joys of Adventure Time, Nat! hoping to get caught up on all the episodes in the next few weeks. hope you had a spooky Halloween!
I go around in an all black, scytheless grim reaper outfit. I hide in dark places and when people draw near I turn on my glowing red eyes and laugh as they run in fear.
The only problem is I went around scaring the people at my college only for my eyes to break a few hours before the trick or treaters come out! Now I have to fix the eyes or else I won’t be able to scare people!
Well, if anything maybe I can join my friends who are making a real life Slender game tonight at the park.
eep! a real life Slender game, GB!!?? that sounds SO creepy and awesome. i’d totally be there! and, yes: glowing red eyes amp up the scare factor on most costumes. hope you got ’em fixed.
I decided I wanted to make my own mask this year and went as a scary scarecrow (is that redundant?). We also throw a party for friends and family and all of their kiddos. It’s a good time for all, and we enjoy it since we don’t get any trick-or-treaters out here in the country.
that’s pretty much what i did this year, DanSam: partied with friends and family at a haunted house Coolhand (my bro-in-law) and i put on for the neighborhood kiddies (we do get trick-or-treaters) in his garage. had a great turnout this year and all the parents were delighted to see their children running scared, which was awesome. 🙂
No one really does trick or treating in my neighborhood. It’s a bit ghetto here.
I was going to dress as an Observer from “Fringe” and take my son trick or treating at the mall. He was insisting on dressing as a ghost pirate cowboy. But my car is in the shop, so sadness happened instead.
a ghost pirate cowboy, E.A.!? i’m already sold from the description alone! sorry the sadness won out.
funny: a trick-or-treater dressed as Slender Man came to the house for candy last night and Mombot thought he looked like an Observer. i was so proud. 🙂
If they pulled it off well, he’d look like an Observer that just got hit with that gas that seals up all your orifices. Lovely time.
I operate a routing table and have access to a massive scrap pile at work. I was going to use that to make a keypad for the communicator device. Might still do that sometime in the next couple of months, just because. I mean, what better day to go out in costume than NOT Halloween?
this sounds like a good plan, E.A.! also, at comic conventions, every day is Halloween pretty much, so you can always wear anything you create at those events with much appreciation.
Not many of them in the Cincinnati area though, but I’m definitely keeping an eye out for them. At the very least, I could spread some awareness of my own independent work.
Actually opted for karaoke with my new girlfriend..
I’m currently dressed as Arthur Dent from the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.
I have been called a frood twice, I am pleased.
Actually Halloween was moved a week in my town, because of sandy destroying a lot of property. So my nieces first Halloween will have to wait. I can’t wait till I can take her trick or treating, next week I get to see all the little kids so I am very excited!
I dressed up in my PJs and stayed inside because it is freaking cold out there. If I did go out I would have opted for scaring the crap out of little kids. Well, more like the kids older than four. I might go scaring next year if it isn’t freezing, or raining, and possibly if I can think of a decent costume and then get/make it. I would totally want to go out one year in knight armor made of LEGO.
ooh – knight armor made of lego, Fijiman?? awesome. we had a couple lego people come by our haunted house this year. a couple of minecraft people, too!
Pinkie Pie from Cupcakes. Yes, that Cupcakes. But I’m sick tonight, so it’s 90’s “horror” movies for me instead.
But I’m going to a party on Saturday, so I still get to dress up 😀
I did forget to ask the one thing, which did you get more of? Threats to have the cops called on you, or candy? I remember the last time I went trick n treating, after I got my driver’s license, by that time, I was the height of the average 6 foot Christmas tree, and had several threats to have the cops called.
I have the exact opposite problem. Because I’m only 5’7″ tall and age slower than most people, people actually think I’m younger than I really am. This caused me problems when I was in my twenties as people had no more respect for me than they did for a teenage boy. This caused people to be very rude to me for no apparent reason. In some cases, I got into physical confrontations because adults thought I was just a teenage boy and therefore an easy target. I managed to give these people the surprise of their lives! On one occasion, a man was harassing me at the store I worked at and as soon as he learned I was 28 years old (then) he lost interest in being aggressive. I told him to examine his prey before he jumps on it! I also got carded going into bars until I was 33. I loved to see the looks on the faces of the doormen and bartenders when they knew how old I really was. I used to curse my slow aging problem but now that I’m essentially a 37 year old in the body of a 25 year old, I’m starting to think there are good points to aging slowly as well.
i seem to age really slowly, too, Rainey – the best part about it was getting into movies for student prices since people thought i was still in school! that doesn’t really happen anymore, sadly.
heheh. did you just go trick-or-treating as yourself or did you dress up? makes a difference as i’ve noticed people only seem to take offense if you aren’t in costume, W.D. Pat!
I didn’t dress up or do anything special at all, really. Just went out for a quick dinner, then came straight home.
However during dinner… I was assaulted by cheerleaders. I’m just sitting there eating my hamburger when out of nowhere these Cheerleader Ninjas pop up all around me and start shoving freebies down my throat. Over the span of about 10 seconds, I ended up with a pen, squishy foam ball, two signed postcards, a pin button, and hilariously cheap hipster sunglasses that I will be using on a frequent basis because I’m too cheap to buy a real pair. Called themselves the “Sacramento Kings Dancers” or something silly like that.
i wonder what the chances of me being assaulted by Cheerleader Ninjas are, Alexander!? i’m going to keep a video camera ready, just in case, so i can post the encounter on YouTube. 😉
The bulk of my Halloween activities consist of walking through haunted houses and fields that people set up. As I recall, the themes used to just be traditional Halloween monsters like Frankenstein’s monster and vampires. However, in recent years the people who put on these scary attractions have incorporated different themes. I have been through a scary clown house, a ghost pirate ship and a pitch black fence maze to name a few. I also go to amusement parks that have a Halloween theme. One of these had a nineteenth century hotel, an insane asylum, a ghoulish nightclub, a medieval area and my personal favorite: the headhunter’s area. My only regret is that I didn’t get to go on my favorite roller coaster while I was there. They shut it down due to heavy rain.
Oh, and what did I dress up as? This year, nothing because I was relatively busy and only got to go to one attraction at an amusement park. (They didn’t allow costumes that would hide your identity.) However, I have some horns and a bovine nose with which to make a minotaur costume for next year. This is to commemorate my favorite story from Greek mythology: Thesius and the Minotaur.
i do the amusement park thing, too, Rainey, with an occasional local haunted house thrown in, as well. Knott’s Scary Farm is probably the best, with the Universal Studios Haunt as a runner-up. and scary clown house is scary.
Since I’m still relatively close to that age, I still go in costume.
In my school I went as a post-apocalyptic soldier from another web-comic. (I don’t count jefbot.com as a rival to it though, because this is sort of like a public journal.)
Around my subdivision/ neighborhood I didn’t go trick or treating, I just gave candy.
I have to point out though, A LOT of kids went as Finn and a few Fionnas in my subdivision, so it’s funny to see jefbot being Finn too. 😀
i dig your costumes, ROM! thanks for posting ’em. and glad to hear you saw a bunch of Finns and Fionnas – they’re such easy costumes to make and so identifiable, i was surprised i didn’t see any in person this Halloween.
I opted for outpatient surgery… though “opted” is not a word I’d use. The local hospital has the worst scheduling! But all in all it wasn’t that bad. I DO look like I was mauled by a porcupine though… flu shot yesterday, two attempts at a blood test, and two attempts at inserting the IV gives me a grand total of 5 needle marks.
No candy, but I did get a brownie for putting up with it all.
ooh, sorry to hear about your surgical Halloween, Myth! at least you looked the part with all the needle marks and maybe some bandages. but, yes, brownies are good, so there’s that. hope you heal up soon!
I feel all better by now! Thankfully, it wasn’t a procedure that required incisions, but apparently they still call it “surgery” since I was under anesthesia.
Well, I have my birthday on the 31st Oct. so I get present then. But I have also planned a surprise party on this Friday for my twin sister! Watching horror movies, traditionally, eating pizza and finger hotdogs with halloween themed candy… Awesome! Your costume in the comic creepes me out a little, since a 20-something is dressed as a little boy… But hey, where I live, we dont trick or treat, its more of an American tradition.
Actually she didnt like it and thought it was stupid… But hey, next year I wont do anything for her >:) (she didnt even buy me a present…)
Your face in the last panel says :”You are never too old to dress up for Halloween!”
I never did trick-or-treating when I was a kid. One of those things about being raised in a conservative Christian household…so last year, I went trick-or-treating with a group of younger friends and pretended to be the chaperone. And yes, trick-or-treating in Fairbanks in October is hideously cold! I was glad to get into my more…risque costume this year and go to an over-crowded bar and almost break a guy’s fingers for getting too handsy. 😀 So parties for me, in my opinion, unless LA works out for me and I can be “chaperone” again for kids in warmer weather.
wow. i can’t even imagine trick-or-treating in Alaska, T – you know i don’t do well in cold, so unless i’m in a padded eskimo or bear costume, i probably wouldn’t make it through the festivities there.
and, yes: almost breaking a dude’s fingers for being too handsy is completely justified and acceptable. i hope he learned his lesson.
also: L.A. working out for you? are you making it your home after your trip?
That’s the hope. I figure I’ll need to be somewhere there’s acting jobs, and California has been looking awfully attractive after twenty-five winters spent in subzero conditions. 😉
Almond Joys are my favorite, Sarah W! love ’em. Snickers, Kit Kats and peanut M&Ms are good too, but AJs are the best. too bad about that Kryptonite Kandy, but glad it all worked out. 🙂
I worked afternoon shift so i was beat and went to sleep at 11 O’clock when I got home. Not that Halloween is much of my thing anyway, we have *Remembrance of the departeds*. Its a family thing where you go visit graves of your relatives… Of course, since that’s hard to do from another country I just lighted a candle for them.
Awesome quick costume. I love Jefbot’s expression – so childlike and fun-loving. So Jefbot opted for Trick-or-Treating instead of hard-core partying, huh? I can’t say I blame him. I have a fierce love of candy and dressing up.
I was Kiki (from Kiki’s Delivery Service) for Halloween. I went to work dressed up, but only a few people knew who I was (the awesome yet geeky IT staff). We also dressed up for a pumpkin carving party (family oriented) this past weekend. Taranchilla was Dr. Horrible, and Miss Bobasha was a belly dancer. I crocheted Jiji (from a pattern, not from scratch this time). http://www.flickr.com/photos/25428243@N06/8133568433/ (You need to make a way to insert pics into the comments!)
Miss Bobasha went trick or treating with a friend, but the rest of us stayed and gave out candy while watching The Hulk. We decided to work our way through all the Avengers’ individual character movies, then go back and watch The Avengers again.
yep! like you, bot loves the candy and traditional festivities more than the booze and partying, Shanna! the Cornfather has always been the more hardcore party-person, anyway. 😉
and: NO WAY! your Kiki costume’s AWESOME (and Taranchilla and Miss Bobasha look fantastic, too!). i was planning to go to a party last year as Jiji with a friend dressed as Kiki but it didn’t happen. there’s always hope for next year, though!
also: awesome plan for your re-watch of The Avengers. my buddy and i did that right before the movie was released. the only films we didn’t have time to watch again were the Ang Lee Hulk and Iron Man 2
I was supposed to be a purple Vampire, but my fangs wouldn’t stay in. For a early party I went as the Vamp & my husband went as my Mad Blood Doctor & carried around a extra IV of my “Vamp Juice”. But for Halloween I skipped the fangs & just modified the costume into a witch. I then wandered around town with a pirate wench and Little Red Riding Wolf. And we went to the bar for wing night & Karaoke. It was fun.
OMIGOSH, if I ever saw you dressed up as Finn I would totally run up to ask if I could hug you and sneak in a kiss on the cheek!
Totally made my day xD
I didn’t go out for any Halloween shenanigans although I did do a facepainting gig for a community event last weekend and got to airbrush Jack Skellington and skulls/crossbones and bats and a mini monster on adorable childrens’ cheeks.
Best part of my day there was making faces light up whenever I greeted the girls with dubious/no costumes with “Why Hello there Princess!”
Got to dress up as a gypsy/pirate for it too! xD So fun!
ha! glad this strip made your day, odevisky! also happy to see another Adventure Time fan among the BOTreaders. 😀
your gig painting faces sounds like a fun time. you know, the Cornfather does clown work and occasionally paints faces, too – you guys should get together and trade tips. heheh.
XD I dressed up as a Mobster and tried to give out candy to people in an apartment complex.
Didn’t work, they vacated immediately and went right for the nice houses behind us, but eh, more candy for us ^^
nice! i don’t know why there were more Scream masks and Clone troopers in the neighborhood i was at this year than AT characters, but hopefully that’ll turn around next year, Byron.
Ah yes. Trick-or-Treating or party. Given the choice, I’d rather go ToT myself. Nowadays, however, I wait until after the holiday, then go get the bags of candy for half off, then eat it ALL BY MYSELF! NO SHARING! PLUS! I don’t look ridiculous. I tried dressing as a weregeek, but I couldn’t take a decent picture of myself, and I didn’t want to get help, because my brother would’ve been a jerk about everything. Oh, well. No harm done. Just $50 I won’t get back. I’ll just hang on to the costume, just in case.
my friend bought a couple bags of candy and didn’t get any trick-or-treaters this year, KB. which was awesome, ‘cuz he gave me half the bag and i didn’t even have to dress up to get it.
ooh, weregeek would’ve been cool! yeah, hang onto the costume: i’m sure it’ll be just as cool next year, too.
GO BOT thats a wicked awsm costume! i dont do anything for halloween anymore unless i go in a group but i hate halloween parties just a buncha bros and slutty dressed chicks ide much rather munch out on candy and sweets and watch gore/horror films and pass out candy to all the lil bastards
y’know, i agree, MrSnow – watching horror movies is a great way to spend Halloween! i watched a ton of ’em on the lead up to the holiday this year which always gets me in the mood for ghouls and ghosts.
I totally agree with this comic. My only problem is that my neighborhood isn’t too good for trick-or-treating :/ Personally I’ve gotten to a point where trick-or-treating is just a bonus to running around in a nightmarish costume and scaring the crap out of people and there just aren’t that many people out and about in my neighborhood.
true that. just getting a costume together and getting out and about on Halloween is reward enough, TWB! especially if you’re like me, and are trying to cut back on your sugar intake. personally, i think i’ve almost eaten enough candy to last ’til the end of the year. almost. hope you find a better neighborhood to lurk in, next year!
I haven’t gone trick-or-treating since 7th grade. And my Halloween-themed activities since then have usually consisted of passing out candy to other trick-or-treaters. If someone plans a party, I may go to that, but I’m content with the former.

I’d be right next to you dressed as Mickey Mouse carrying a lightsaber in honor of Disney buying Lucasfilms!
i never would’ve thought i’d be more excited about Star Wars without Lucas’s involvement than with it, TPC, but here we are. can’t wait to see what Disney does with VII, VIII and IX! woo!
Hidden Mickeys from Tatooine anyone?
we can only hope, ROM!
AWESOME!
Well we sadly we don’t celebrate Halloween here. But the nightclubs always have great parties and costume related stuff, so I went like Jack the ripper XD
nice! there was an awesome Jack the Ripper maze at a haunted amusement park i went to this year, Kanashe! you would’ve fit right in. 😀
I see Adventure Time has infected Bot’s programming, none the less he looks adorable! I see batmaan! C:
Happy Halloween Jeff!
yes, i have discovered the joys of Adventure Time, Nat! hoping to get caught up on all the episodes in the next few weeks. hope you had a spooky Halloween!

I’m opting for the “scary video game marathon and pizza” option.
that’s always an excellent option, Steve!
I decided I wanted to make my own mask this year and went as a scary scarecrow (is that redundant?). We also throw a party for friends and family and all of their kiddos. It’s a good time for all, and we enjoy it since we don’t get any trick-or-treaters out here in the country.
I meant to say we throw a party every year… That’s what I get for trying to post from my phone.

Quite true. Quite true, old chap. *random pipe*

Oh my my…made of LEGO? My condolences to you, my dear sir… Such a feat is too great for me…
(Dramatic speaking is fun… I never talk like this in person!)
It’s too great a feat for me as well at the moment, but one day…
And you should try dramatic speaking in person, even if it’s only monolog to yourself. It’s fun.
i agree. fun can be had.
ooh – knight armor made of lego, Fijiman?? awesome. we had a couple lego people come by our haunted house this year. a couple of minecraft people, too!
Pinkie Pie from Cupcakes. Yes, that Cupcakes. But I’m sick tonight, so it’s 90’s “horror” movies for me instead.
But I’m going to a party on Saturday, so I still get to dress up 😀
awww… hope you’ve recovered, FallenAvalon! sounds like a lot of people caught a bug this Halloween.

Thank you, kind sir!
You dressed up as Snippy?! Awesome! You should have had a third friend dress up as Pilot.
Sadly we have no connections with the air force to get us a mask… 😀
i dig your costumes, ROM! thanks for posting ’em. and glad to hear you saw a bunch of Finns and Fionnas – they’re such easy costumes to make and so identifiable, i was surprised i didn’t see any in person this Halloween.

Love the adventure time nod. I’m not going trick or treating but I think bot’s got the right idea
woo for Adventure Time, Jiro! maybe next year bot can convince the Cornfather to go trick-or-treating with him as Jake.

having your birthday on Halloween is awesome, DAS! it’s like everybody’s dressing up just for you! hope the surprise party for your sister goes well.
and don’t feel creeped out by bot in the strip: he’s still young at heart. 😉
yep! SoCal has the warm weather and acting gigs covered! quite a culture shock from Alaska, fer sure. 🙂
I flew Supergirl around the neighborhood until someone dropped some Kryptonite Kandy in her plastic pumpkin and I ended up carrying her home.
But she gave me all her Almond Joys!
Yo man, what up? What are you up to these days? Haven’t heard ’bout you in like ages. Not going to Abarat anymore?
Do you even know Im in England?
hmm. “remembrance of the departeds” sounds like a sensible, honorable thing to do, Maryz. i take it candy isn’t a part of that.
Jeffbot Time. C’mon grab your friends!
would Abraxis go as Jake i wonder?
while it would be awesome for the Cornfather to accompany bot as Jake, Maesonic, Abraxas would be way more adorable. 🙂
and: NO WAY! your Kiki costume’s AWESOME (and Taranchilla and Miss Bobasha look fantastic, too!). i was planning to go to a party last year as Jiji with a friend dressed as Kiki but it didn’t happen. there’s always hope for next year, though!
also: awesome plan for your re-watch of The Avengers. my buddy and i did that right before the movie was released. the only films we didn’t have time to watch again were the Ang Lee Hulk and Iron Man 2
I pretty much wore my street clothes, then I added a pea coat, Ichigo’s hollow mask, and some sai. All in all, it was a good halloween.
nice, Noramil! you know, the costumes you make yourself – i feel – are just way more fun. and less stressful to put together.
I’d be with bot. I love free candy and dressing up. I missed out on both cuz I was at work til after 11pm :/
ugh! i hope your work appreciated you staying late on Halloween, dj! do you work at a restaurant?
Yes I do. And we close at 10 on weekdays
For some reason, I really want to see CF take on an army of ninjas in a nightclub. No idea why…
heheh. that’d be awesome, Soul Man. and bloody.
*runs in, boxes in arms, smooches her peeps (You know who you are!!!!) and runs back out*
Almost done moving, hoping to be back in full force next week, GAH more boxes!!!
wooHOO! thanks for the smooches, and good luck with all that movin’, Pixie!
It was fun.
“wing night & Karaoke” sounds like a good time, Fazzey! plus you got in all that early costuming and partying, too. you must be a pro at this. 🙂
/SQUEE
Didn’t work, they vacated immediately and went right for the nice houses behind us, but eh, more candy for us ^^
i could see how that would happen, JR. hope they left good candy behind. 😉
There was family in our hood that dressed up as Finn, Fiona, LSP, PB and BMO.
P.S. We scared a lot of kids, teens and adults with our setup.
nice! i don’t know why there were more Scream masks and Clone troopers in the neighborhood i was at this year than AT characters, but hopefully that’ll turn around next year, Byron.
I agree! Well done!
T~T we got like 5 trick-er-treater this year. Not happy!
But I did dress up as Cody from SFVI and Kim was Chun Li
