wooHOOOO! it felt good drawing Mu again and getting him back in the thick of things, f_f! i’m glad you’re excited!
and check you out – you’re back on top with this strip’s Shades of Firsting! wear ’em well – they’ll help you make dramatic entrances and returns like Mu in that final panel:
😎
Hrmm…well, in researching the etymology of Grimwald, I found that, according to the Germanic naming heritage, grim means “helmet” or “mask” and weald (i.e. Waldemar, Edwald, etc.) means “power” So… “Helmet Power?” “Mask Power?”
Welp. I’ve finally done it. I think I’ve FINALLY dug too deep. Also, this very comic is somehow on the SECOND page of Google search results if you look for “Grimwald rabbit.”
believe it or not, the etymology does play a part in why our cave rabbit’s named that, JOE! so – unlike the dwarves of moria – you have not (yet) dug too deep!
and let’s hope Grimwald’s google rankings go up once this strip has been out a bit!
I get the feeling that there is going to be a very interesting story behind Mu’s statement. Also, Mu looks like he is determined to take on the world, nice work on the character deign in this one.
your feelings serve you well, Bloo Doom – there is an interesting story there, but one we’ll only be able to touch on at the moment. maybe someday we’ll find out the whole story. and, thanks – happy you dug the art!
Now why didn’t I think of that! I absolutely agree with you.
Tenth Doctor is coming back for 50th anniversary! Yey!
Too bad 9th refused and they didn’t even ask 8th.
11th is a given. I like Matt Smith well enough and he has good scripts but I still say David Tennant is better actor.
i’m still playing catch up on DW and in the midst of Tennant’s run, who i think is great, although i’m looking forward to see what Matt Smith contributes to the series as i’ve heard good things.
Now I’m hoping he’s actually at 100% and won’t, say, glitch out in a combat situation…but surely that wouldn’t happen, right?
Also, for some reason I was intently focused on that bottle in Jefbot’s bag in panel 1 last night, but then I realized I was being weird and it was probably just Mountain Dew Code Red or something (is that still a thing? I remember it used to be a thing).
as for Code Red – it was gone for awhile (along with LiveWire and Pitch Black) but i’ve found it back at a couple of 7-11s, recently. which makes me happy, as it’s probably my favorite flavor of the Mountain Dew spinoffs.
hope you had a fun halloween, Graypatch! i didn’t get to do as many things this year as i normally do (theme parks, haunted houses and such) but it was still a good one.
awww…. thanks, annabanana! sometimes it feels like i haven’t improved all that much but when i look back at some of the earliest strips i can see the evolution!
Spitball theorizing here.
Green and purple are often paired up in fantasy settings, so Grimwald’s and Musashi’s eyes suggest some sort of partnership. I’m thinking that, before Musashi became Bot’s pet, he had lost access to his powers and thus would have died soon if he couldn’t regain control. Grimwald, as Cel’s pet, had her seek out and befriend Bot, on a reconnaissance mission both to find Musashi and to see if Bot was a worthy ally. Once that was confirmed, Grimwald abducted Musashi in order to restore his powers and prepare him to recruit Bot.
If I’m right, I’ll take the internet I just won is small non-sequential data packets.
good theories, E. A. Setser! whether any (or all!) are true or not will definitely be revealed by the end of this storyline so make sure you have space for all those data packets. ;D
One combination of several that could validate this exchange, Cel knowing Musashi, and their getting Bot involved in all of this, I’m sure. I’m eager to see what you’ve made of it all though. Even if I’m dead wrong, I get a strange sort of writer-high from developing alternate theories that could have worked from the current context.
The waffles are also nice.
Speaking of names, I introduced a Hispanic character in my webcomic that I’m still working on perfecting with the help of my friends. His name is Luis Vasquez. I then found out that this happened to also be the name of one of the friends of the Boston Marathon bombers. I considered changing the name of the character after finding this out but decided not to because this fact isn’t really widely known anyway.
Those are also both really common Hispanic names. Probably a couple dozen Luis Vasquez’s in California alone. So, I don’t think anybody who even knows that fact will assume any deliberate connection.
i’m w/ E. A. on this one, Rainey – i don’t think anyone will assume any deliberate connection, if they even remember his name at all. but if you feel uncomfortable about it and it’s feasible to change his name without a gargantuan effort, go ahead and change it – it’s the great thing about the internet, after all. once you go to print with your strips, though, it’s a different story.
Omagash that is awesome!!!!

Mu is freaking back in action!! Woohoo!!
he’s back and ready to take on those Growlers, f_f! (well, let’s hope so.)
Yes Mu is back! Grimwald now why does that seem familiar? Something to think about .
woo! and there’s a logic for the cave bunny’s name to be “Grimwald,” but maybe only in my own mind, Kris. 😉

Dear lord, I really thought I was finally showing the side effects of my Stargate SG-1 marathoning with that trick…
🙂
I don’t know why, but I absolutely love the name Grimwald. And, yay, Musashi’s back! 😀
glad you dig it, Blunz! although i’ve considered a ton of other names over the past few months, “Grimwald” always felt right. 🙂
His name was always supposed to be Grimwald if it’s right in your mind. I still like him and am glad he’s saved Mu twice now.
i think so, too, Kris. “Grimwald” was just meant to be. 🙂
and, woo! Mu’s rebooted and ready to get his quest on.
Aaaaaand, he’s back! Yay!
yay! let’s hope he’s still in fighting shape, theBean. 🙂
Aww
🙂
Yay, Mu is de-scramblified! 😀
yay! he’s been defragmented and rebooted, Insectoid!
I get the feeling that there is going to be a very interesting story behind Mu’s statement. Also, Mu looks like he is determined to take on the world, nice work on the character deign in this one.

Mu is back and looks like he’s ready to kick some but! Woo!
You know, I just realized that I never commented on the last comic. I’ll go do that now.
i think you’re right, GB – after being “paused” for so long, i think Mu’s ready to do some butt-kicking!
Of course Mu wakes up at the last moment possible….
at least he didn’t wake up after the Growlers arrived, TCG!
What is Grimwald putting together there in second panel?
Is it a bomb?
Is it harddrive scrambler?
Is it a teleporter?
good eye (and good question,) Maryz – we’ll find out soon.
Its a sonic screwdriver, its the only logical tool at this point in time.
Now why didn’t I think of that! I absolutely agree with you.

I have to agree with the statement about Tennant, he is my favorite doctor of the reboot.
i’m still playing catch up on DW and in the midst of Tennant’s run, who i think is great, although i’m looking forward to see what Matt Smith contributes to the series as i’ve heard good things.
heh. i bet Grimwald would absolutely love a real sonic screwdriver, BD.
It would definitely be interesting if someone did get their very own “handheld plot device” aka sonic screwdriver.
Muuuuuuu!!!!!!! Yay! He’s back and awake. Thank you Mr. Grimwald for fixing him.
And I’m with Maryz. What IS that thing Grimwald is working on? Hopefully it is going to delay the baddies while Mu, Yuki and Bot make a swift getaway!
i knew you’d be happy that Mu’s back in action, Shanna! let’s hope he stays around for awhile, now. 🙂
as for what Grimwald’s working on – we’ll find out, soon. i can tell you it’s not a weapon.
How come the fact that confirmation its not a weapon makes it scarier?
heheh.
Helluva dramatic show up, I think. Welcome back Musashi!
apparently, Mu likes to make dramatic appearances, JGT!
Welcome back to the party, Musashi.
he’s happy to be back, PJ! and eager to return to the quest, i’m sure.
Aww yeah, Mu!
Now I’m hoping he’s actually at 100% and won’t, say, glitch out in a combat situation…but surely that wouldn’t happen, right?

as for Code Red – it was gone for awhile (along with LiveWire and Pitch Black) but i’ve found it back at a couple of 7-11s, recently. which makes me happy, as it’s probably my favorite flavor of the Mountain Dew spinoffs.
And he is back, but is he the man behind the mask? +1 Power Point for getting the reference. Looking forward to the rest of the story to unfold!
hmm… is that an alice cooper reference, Graypatch? (i had to google it.) 🙂
looking forward to telling the rest of the story!
Indeed it is. It is also a theme-song from one of the “Friday the 13th” movies. I though it suitable since we are so close to Halloween.
hope you had a fun halloween, Graypatch! i didn’t get to do as many things this year as i normally do (theme parks, haunted houses and such) but it was still a good one.
I knew they had some sort of connection!
GRIMWALD. It sounds viking-y. Or German.
yep – they have, indeed, met before, DAS! and another yep – “Grimwald” is a german name.
Grimwald (Saint Grimwald) French monk. History a saint that got England back into reading. So all in all a good name.
ooh, i didn’t even know about Saint Grimwald, Kris. even better! (maybe our rabbit’s a saint in a parallel universe?)
So his name is Grimwald? Neat.
Also, wasn’t there mention of another Botton give away happening at some point?
yep! there will be another BOTton giveaway soon, Fijiman. i know it’s been delayed for some time now so i’m glad to see your interest still lives.
Well considering I didn’t even notice the last one until the day after it ended I don’t want to miss the next one.
I must say I love your comic. Also your art has improved drastically from the first post till now. The change is HUGE!
awww…. thanks, annabanana! sometimes it feels like i haven’t improved all that much but when i look back at some of the earliest strips i can see the evolution!

This theory sounds fairly legit. Here, have a waffle (‘-‘)/#
mMmm… waffles.
If Musashi lost access to his powers, I’m guessing he also shrunk down Rampage video game style.
ha! another good theory, Rainey.
