This scenario with my sister Lor/Laura happened pretty much as portrayed in the strip, years ago, after the rest of us had all called it a night. For some reason, Laura got it in her head that she just had to watch Tim Burton’s Batman, and would not take no for an answer. Well, after much hemming and hawing, my brother-in-law Mike/Coolhand and I finally relented. Seriously, if you know the movie – we didn’t even make it out of the “Batman Logo Sculpture” with the opening music, before we noticed my sister was fast asleep. She’s been denied movie calling rights ever since.
Dude… i feel you pain
your* but i must say tim burton did a good job with that one. buuuuut i feel bad for the lack of head movement of batman in that one
i remember when Tim Burton’s Batman was the epitome of awesomeness, Allan!!! but yeah, even when i thought that, it was weird that Batman had to move his entire torso to look around. ah, well. at least Christian Bale’s Batman has independent head movement.
and check you out – you just achieved the Shades of Firsting! congrats, and wear them well: with these on, you can at least pretend you’re watching a midnight film fest, even if your eyes are actually closed:
😎
it was soo sad. one time actually i feel asleep during the helicopter scene in live free or die hard…. i still don’t know what happened.
ha! did you fall asleep before or after the flying police car hit it, Allan!!!?
IT DID WHAT?!
Yeah, my dad has a bad habit of doing that. Or worse, taking over the telly when I want to watch Castle or something like that. Somehow, his discovery channel thing is more important than Nathan Fillion (lies and blasphemy!).
i’ve still never watched that show, T, even though i’ve been told it’s worth watching and i think Nathan’s great. i can’t even keep up with the shows i do watch, and i’ve just started watching My Little Pony and Adventure Time, both of which should keep me busy for a while.
Ah, we will fix that when I come through LA! I have the first three seasons and have been glued to the screen for the fourth season. Castle is a fantastic show, and worth spending time on.
aagh! four seasons, T!? that’s a lotta makin’ up to do!
That’s what you get for missing so much! You have to make it up sometime, darlin’!
I gotr a picture of a luverly Miss Tiana in the MAIL YESTERDAY!!!!
oh, really, Pixie? i’m intrigued. can you describe this picture? 😉
It’s my profile picture on Facebook, Jeff…and one should be on its way to you as well. 😀
Though if you want a different sort of photo, that could be arranged…
*gasp!*
😀 Kiss kiss!
😀
His priorities are definitely screwed up.
i dunno, Shanna. the Discovery Channel is pretty awesome. 🙂
Okay, this time I was out of the house, so I was wasn’t refreshing over and over for this one.
This is pretty funny! Strange too. I’m sort of like your sister sometimes, except the situation is food.
Friend: “I’m full man. Let’s go upstairs.”
Me: “Naw, I’m all good. I grab some pizza.”
Friend: “Okay, but you ate a load back there…”
Me: “I’m fine.”
*Minutes later
Me: “Hey… do you like half eaten food?”
Can I have the Non-Shades of Thirding? I know they exist, you used them on your sister.
mMMmm… pizza. now you’re makin’ me hungry for lunch, ShadowShuffler. and i just had breakfast.
and, yes! here are your Non-Shades of Thirding. you earned ’em:
You just took me back. Wow. I remember a time when DC totally ruled the theaters, and Marvel was just doing horrible TV movies. Wow, how times have changed.
so true, Saeed. Marvel couldn’t get a decent movie made back then if it chomped them on the butt. when i was working for a movie memorabilia business, i remember us having posters for Fantastic Four and Spider-Man movies that never even made it to theaters. (or if they did, they were in very limited release.)
My sister-in-law has the original Adam West Batman movie. We’ve watched it three times in two weeks.
Because sometimes you just need big cartoony BAM! OOF! fights and some climbing effects with actors walking across brick floors holding a rope.
Amiright?
youareright! i remember renting that movie way back when, Sarah W. that was the one where Batman had the shark repellent on his utility belt, right? 😀
I hate it when this happens. Anyone that ever does it is also denied movie calling rights. Coincidentally, it doesn’t happen that often anymore.
now i kinda do that to myself, Destructur25 – i’ll get all excited about something around 2am, so put in a disc or call it up on Netflix, and then pass out halfway through.
Good Morning Botiverse!
Dude….this is my Mom. Totally and completely. She picks a movie and then falls asleep. I did it once and now I’m the devil!
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it every time. Christian Bale sucks in everything he does. As Batman he is a disgrace. He sounds like he’s gargling with broken glass and gravel. And HELLO every Batman movie he’s been in has SUCKED! Tim Burton and Michael Keaton FOREVER!!!!
I agree with you on your first point. Christian Bale only plays one kind of character: dark and angry aggressive person.
As for your second point… I have to admit that the best thing about the two newest Batmans have been Liam Neeson in the 1st, Heath Ledger in the 2nd, and Michael Caine in both.
So yeah, Michael Keaton is the best Batman of all- eons ahead of Clooney, Kilmer and Bale!
agreed: Michael Keaton has been the best Batman so far, Soul Man. which is strange, cuz i remember the outcry when it was announced he had the role.
You’ve just got to love how times change.
morning, Pixie! funny you should mention your mom – i bet my sister Lor/Laura inherited this very trait from Mombot/Mom! my mother has a knack for putting something on and then falling asleep right before the end. i think this is why she loves the invention of the TiVO/DVR so much. 🙂
and i think the Christian Bale role that i’ve enjoyed the most has been one of his first ones as the kid in Empire of the Sun. underrated movie and he was great in it! (at the very least he wasn’t trying to modulate his voice.)
Unfortunately, I have done this sort of thing more than once. If I’m tired, there is really nothing I can do to stay awake. I may have mentioned before that I once (in college) was at a concert in a big armory and sat with my back propped against the wall with my head on my knees and slept through the opening act so I’d be awake for the main show (I have no idea who it was at this point). I just recently dozed during Los Lonely Boys despite my valiant efforts to stay awake. 😛
ha! wow, Shanna – i wish i had powers over sleep the way you do! i’ve always had problems sleeping, but i think working all hours on JEFbot the past few years has only exacerbated the problem, as it’s very easy for me to keep awake, even when i’m trying hard to sleep.
I guess she really likes Michael Keaton?!
i’m not sure what possessed her that evening, FunnyShaffer; she likes Michael Keaton, but not that much! 🙂
And what happened after LoJ fell asleep? The ‘bot and I watched the entire movie and were exhausted the next day. Oh, but we are so much wiser now, and will not fall prey to her Batman tricks anymore…hopefully. 😉
yep, we still ended up watching the movie, SL! and the one good thing that came from this: that we get to throw this in her face every time she tries to suggest a movie that we don’t wanna watch. 🙂
My wife does this to me a lot, where she just needs to see this movie coming on cable, or if she just needs to see this movie we have on demand, and we must watch it at 9 at night, even if I don’t want to watch it we must watch it then, about 45 minutes into the movie, she’s asleep on the couch and I have to fill her in on what she missed while she was sleeping or she’ll ask me how it ended.
I like to make up endings though, like “they were all involved in a suicide pack and they all killed themselves.” or “Alien invaded, it was totally from left field and I not something I’d expect from a Reese Witherspoon movie.” She never believes me and I have to tell her how the movie really ended.
ha! i like that you make up endings, TPC. i need to remember that for the next time this kind of thing happens with one of my friends or family members.
I can’t wait for The Dark Knight Rises. I have to see it at the midnight showing. <3 I will not except anything else, even if I have to go by myself!!
after the latest trailers, my hype has cooled a bit for DKR, Nat. which is a good thing, cuz now i won’t be overhyped on it! as we get closer to the release date, i fear this will all change, however…
I’m trying to remain calm, but its hard to do for DKR unlike Hunger Games. I only have little spaz moments when I see the trailers. (:
Your sister has nice taste but terrible manners. Being sleepy is no excuse for sleeping through movie you just coerced everyone to watch. I should know I got enough of it from my relatives – who have no taste in movies whatsoever. Kudos to Lor.
since Coolhand/Mike and i still ended up watching the whole movie, your point is well taken, Maryz.
I can definately relate to this situation- from both Lor and Bot/Coolhand’s perspective! This sort of thing happens all the time between my brother and I, so we stopped bothering keeping track of who’s more guilty of this heinous misdemeanor 😉
heh. you gotta start keeping score, Soul Man! kidding. falling asleep while watching movies is a great sibling bonding experience. 🙂
The Avengers was a great movie, hoped you enjoyed it. As for your sister, well, I guess she had it coming. I’ve done similar things before, like starting a movie at three in the morning , just I stayed awake through the whole thing.
i totally enjoyed The Avengers, GB! i’m sure i’ll see it again at least a couple more times before it leaves theaters, too. i saw it in 3D the first time, but now have to see it in 2D at any rate.
and glad you can start a movie at 3am and still finish it. i seem to have this power on days i have work the next morning, but lack it when i can sleep in. 😉
Movie calling is a priviledge not a right. Also, it’s easier to stay awake in a standing position or rigid sitting position than the one Lor is pictured in.
yeah, reclining on comfy couches is a sure way to succumb to the dreaming, Rainey. this must be combated with mass amounts of Mountain Dew and candy.
My wife falls asleep during almost every movie, then complains that they don’t make sense… This is why I don’t watch chick flicks with her, I hate explaining why guy A is now with woman B etc. etc. Action flicks are easier. “He is shooting the ugly man because that man is a bad guy.”
Will we see you at Phoenix Comicon this year? It was good times meeting you last year (plus new additions to my button collection). Hope you’ll be there!
I can stay up for days given enough caffeine and distractions to keep me from zoning out. Otherwise falling asleep on my feet is not uncommon.
Let’s watch Batman!
