First of all, I haven’t actually seen Princess Leia at Disneyland, but I know it’s a safe assumption it will happen now that Star Wars has been added to the Disney family.
Secondly, I know many Star Wars geeks will argue that the “gold bikini” Leia from Return of the Jedi is the best Leia, but I’ve always been partial to the princess from my favorite Star Wars flick, The Empire Strikes Back. I’m not sure why. Maybe I just like my princesses uptight.
So what’s your favorite Leia? I’ve put a poll together to help us come to a consensus in a blog post here. Vote away!
I’m all about the look of her when she’s in the MF. A little dirty, a little grungy…and damn sexy!
yes! the “scoundrel” scene in the Falcon during Empire is one of my absolute favorites from the entire run of films, JP!
and check you out: you just achieved the Shades of Firsting! wear them well – these have a targeting computer built-in, which may come in handy should you find yourself on a Death Star trench run:
😎
Staying on target…staying on target…
it… came from… behind!
Blasted Biggs where are you?
Which was supposed to be…”Blasted Wedge where are you?” but Mark Hamill said the wrong line and George liked it and left it in. But the real line makes more sense since Wedge was Luke’s wingman.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
😀
Almost had it…
~
Anyways,
Star Wars being in Disneyland saddens me ever so slightly, for it makes me think they have stooped down. No offense or anything, but I think Star Wars’ true glory days are over.
Pssst…Star TOURS has been in Disneyland for YEARS! That is Star Wars! Lucas was brilliant and had 2 Lucas films already at Disneyland, Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
yep! that’s why i set this strip in Tomorrowland by Star Tours! and Lucas having such a tight relationship with Disneyland for so long (i think he even produced Captain EO for them) makes me think this acquisition makes a lot of sense. although i don’t think i’m ready to see leia, han, luke and kenobi greeters around the park just yet.
• • •
…~sigh~
I’m sorry! Last time I was in Disneyland was when I was 7!
aack! don’t remind me of the NOOOOOOOOO from RotS, ROM!
I suggest anyone that’s still worried about Disney owning Star Wars watch this video: http://youtu.be/LDOXRjqSgYE It made so much sense to me and put my mind at ease.
ha! thanks for the link, JP. “he trapped your cash!” 😀
It’s a trap?
yep. it’s a traaaaaaaap!!!
I’m with you, Jeff; the Hoth Leia was pretty and functional, with the sense that she had the training and the brains to do whatever was needed. While I like eye candy just as much as the next bi-lady, having a woman around just as pretties makes my skin itch.
And you know, being in Alaska and watching trick-or-treaters, the Hoth outfit is *way* more plausible for kids out there in the cold…
ha! i’m sure there’ve been more frozen gold bikini trick-or-treaters than hoth gear trick-or-treaters. 🙂
i think that’s one of the reasons i liked Hoth Leia, too, T – it was such a surprise to see her so practical looking with her tucked braids and snow gear in TESB, especially after her dainty white dress and hair buns in SW. plus, she seemed very commanding yet vulnerable, and just a more realized character. awesome!
For style, I prefer Hoth Leia to Senator Leia, but I like the comfortable/casual ensemble and hairstyle of Endor Moon Leia, too.
As for the attitude, competence trumps cute for me. Always has.
i just looked at the poll and am shocked to see so many readers agree with you, Sarah W! as of now, Endor Leia’s #1!
and, yes: competence trumps cute for me, too. well, most of the time. 😉
You scruffy looking nerf herder!
who’s scruffy looking!?
I find it funny that she says it to Han when Chewie is right there. I mean, calling Captain Obvious. xD
🙂
I always kind of like defiant Leia from Star Wars. “The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers. “
that means you like british Leia, TPC! funny how she lost her english accent later in the movie, and then it’s all but gone in the sequels. 🙂
Yeah, props must be given for the awesomeness that is a pair of snow boots.
agreed: snow boots are awesome, Anime fan.
GOOD Morning BOTiverse! It’s official! I’m all moved but still unpacking…I will be unpacking for 3 years!
Huh….and here I though I was the only one who didn’t think Leia was awesome in the gold bikini. I find her very meh in that scene. My favorite is when they are repairing the ship I think it’s in Empire? And Han takes her hand and she says stop it my hands are filthy. LOVE her there cause then she goes off and I am so that way. Yeah i love you but stop being a dill hole!
woo! congrats, Pixie! and remember, if you get tired of unpacking those boxes: HUMAN HABITRAIL.
and, yeah – while i liked her in the gold bikini, i wasn’t gaga for her like some of my friends. she just seemed kind of out of place. i wanted Hoth Leia back! and the scene you mentioned is one of my favorites, too.
Aand of course I am the only one who immidietly thinks of Java the Hut from the Family Guy parody of SW…
for whatever reason, i just couldn’t get into the Family Guy Star Wars parodies, DAS. my buddy loves them, though, so i may have to give ’em another try. i do love the Robot Chicken Star Wars stuff, tho!
“Something, Something, Something, Dark Side!” – Emperor Whatshisname (“Return of the Whatever”, 19somethingorother)
Here’s another one for you:
Leia or Amidala?
Leia. Hands down.
Leia, cause Leia would never flirt with a 10 year old boy.
Although, if you asked Portman or Fisher I’d go with Portman cause, rwwwarrr.
i agree with TPC – Portman in real life, Leia in fantasy life.
No QUESTION….Leia!
I think Hoth Leia has the best (as in most realistically wearable) hair, but SW Leia has the awesomely stupid buns that are the essential Leia. If you boil her down to one feature that anyone could recognize as Leia, it would be the buns (as in hair, you pervs) – or maybe the gold bikini.
I must admit that I like the incongruity of Leia being a Disney Princess. It puts a whole new spin on the Disney Princess thing.
it’s true, Shanna – if you just looked at all the different Leias in silhouette, the bun (heheh) head Leia would be the most recognizable, so she’s definitely the most iconic.
I actually paid more attention to the actions and personalities of the Star Wars characters than to their attire. Therefore in order to select a favorite outfit, I’d have to watch all the movies again. However, the Princess Leia with the “cinnamon bun” hairstyle does fit well with the Disney theme because it makes her head shaped like Mickey Mouse.
if you go by actions, i still say the Hoth Leia’s the best, Rainey! she got the base evacuated and many rebels safely away before the Empire overran the place. and she also helped get the Millennium Falcon working and romanced Han while they were in the asteroid worm’s gut! of course, Star Wars Leia did help get Han and Luke off the Death Star, and did end up getting the schematics for the battle station to the rebels, thereby saving billions of lives. then again, Endor Leia helped destroy the shield generators protecting the Death Star 2 in Jedi, which helped save billions of lives, too. so: hmm. it’s a toss-up. just go with the bun head Leia, for the reason you mentioned. 🙂
I believe you forgot Bespin Leia in that poll.
i didn’t forget about her, Fijiman, just didn’t think she’d get many votes. then again, i put in “Baby Leia” as a joke and she has 7 votes already! i’m accepting write-in votes, so if another person nominates Bespin Leia, i’ll list her in the poll. 🙂
Uptight Hoth Leia was my first crush!
woo! she’s the best, Reilly!
Same episode, but the Cloud City outfit is mine. I don’t know what it is about that suit pants outfit…
added Cloud City Leia to the mix, theBean!
When I said Princess Leia was now a Disney Princess, I didn’t think it all the way through to Disneyland, but now I can totally see that happening. I love the ridiculous hairstyle with the twisted buns on either side of the head – I’ve actually done it myself. Hoth Leia’s hairstyle seems a little more practical, though – how those buns stayed in is a mystery to me…
my guess is space hairspray, Maia! or maybe The Force?
You know, technically, Disney didn’t really buy Star Wars. What they bought was the LICENSE to Star Wars. They have the permission to make the movies and sell franchise stuff, but George Lucas still owns the franchise itself and the characters. In other words, if Disney messes up, George can still retcon the third trilogy.
you sure, NeoD? as i understood it, they bought Lucasfilm outright, with money and a share of Disney stock, with Lucas only being a consultant now. chances are, they can’t mess it up as badly as George did with the prequels, anyway. 🙂
It’s just what I heard. And sorry for responding so late- I have a corneal abrasion in my left eye causing me immense agony. But I’m pretty sure that there’s a grain of truth in it. All I know is that Lucas still has the rights and owns the franchise, while Disney owns everything else about it. EVERYTHING else. Apparently, that’s how they go about the whole thing. So yeah. Lucas still holds say over what is or isn’t canon. Disney gets everything else.
…At least I don’t think they’re going to make that kids’ Star Wars show I heard about where they follow a bunch of younglings and nobody’s allowed to have lightsabers until they’re fully grown, physically. Though, apparently, George was interested in the concept of a Star Wars tv show directed at kids.
Im with you on this one, personally I think a little imagination never hurts sexiness and Girl that knows what she wants and isnt afraid to speak for herself is always my fav.
agreed: brains, confidence and personality are so much more attractive than just a hot bod, Maryz.
I’m not really schooled enough in the star wars fandom to really make an informed decision so I’ll stay out of the Lucasfilm/Disney thing.
heheh. okay, but based solely on the pics, which Leia would you choose, dj?
I chose Hoth Leia
Maybe you just like your princesses de-princessified, and not in the canned sassiness way that Disney tends to do it. Showing off some skin is fine, invited even, but I don’t buy into the polite and pretty princess crap that gets pushed on girls in our society from day one.
I doubt that politeness is pushed on girls in our society considering that in recent years I’ve had more women act rude to me than I’ve had men do so. (Though there are also plenty of considerate and rude people of both sexes as well.) As far as a princess mentality, yes I can see that. Princesses get special privileges and therefore expect them. Female persons in the United States grow up with more rights and privileges than male persons. They are also taught that they have the right to treat male persons however they please and not expect repercussions. Fortunately, there are female persons who don’t expect special privileges and don’t take advantage of their “right” to mistreat men. I have a lot of respect for these female persons.
and let’s not forget, Rainey, while there are a few privileges enjoyed by women, they’re also subject to more sexism and unfairness than their male counterparts. i mean, really? it took ’til 2009 for the Lilly Ledbetter act to be a thing? sad.
Walk down the toy aisle of any department store. Boys toys are all about being active, building, racing, digging, creating, and innovating with your motorized Omni-Blox. Girls toys are peeing babies, Easy Bake Ovens, and Gold Digger Barbie. What you mentioned is an offshoot of that last one, the indoctrinated mentality that it’s a right and a necessity for a woman to have a man provide everything for her without argument. It’s pushed into their heads that a woman’s capabilities — and thus responsibilities — end with housekeeping and babymaking.
It’s also an underlying factor behind income inequality. It creates generations of women who are less assertive in the workplace and men who write off those who are as “pushy dykes.”
that’s probably true, E. A. – while i do like some Disney princesses, they’re more of the “Belle” and “Mulan” variety than the “Snow White” and “Sleeping Beauty” variety.
Belle is and always has been my favorite Disney Princess. She was just like me; a slightly social awkward bookworm who got all excited about imaginary situations and new books. And Mulan is such an imaginative “princess”, able to think around corners.
I was wondering if you have had the chance to peruse http://inkoutbreak.com/?comic=d3fa44c6521d24418b87b29b07c271d7 Blue Milk Special @ inkOUTBREAK?
They have their latest poll of the costumes from Ep IV to Cloud City on Bespin through a chronological movement through the Star Wars genre.
just clicked that link, W.D. Pat, and it’s crazy that BIS and i both came up with Leia polls at nearly the same time! (talk about the geek hive mind.) with vastly different results, tho: in their poll, Gold Bikini Leia’s waaaaay ahead of Hoth Leia, which isn’t even in their Top 3. which proves BOTreaders are way more savvy. 😉
Well, it’s my turn to vote. . . . mwah ha ha ha ha ha ha cough, hack, hack. ahem. Excuse me, do you have any Grey Poupon?
I think I like her best on the Moon of Endor in the military get up. There’s just something about a woman in uniform, perhaps the knowledge that she’s perfect capable beating me to a pulp if I misbehave O_o. That, or RotJ was the first Star Wars I remember seeing on VHS as a wee sprout.
looks like many BOTreaders would agree with you, Bender_Sastre – Speeder Bike Leia’s currently #4 in the polls!
Uptight Leia in the Hoth snow gear was definitely under rated. Still think the best get up was the slave outfit on the sail barge. It may not be just me that thinks that, but at least I’ve put some thought into the decision… Most people just see skin and are like….wait, what were we talking about?
definitely not just you, Eptha – Gold Bikini Leia’s currently #3 in the poll, which isn’t too shabby. i figured she’d be #1 easy, but it’s nice to see BOTreaders bucking the trend! now googling Leia on the sail barge to see that scene where… wait, what were we talking about?
I hadn’t even thought of Bespin Leia…
I prefer the fake bounty hunter outfit myself but that’s me
just added Bounty Hunter/Boushh Leia to the poll, Jiro!
Now that I think about it, Hoth Princess Leia is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think about her character. Of course, that’s probably also because Episode V is also the most iconic of all the Star Wars movies (after all, that’s pretty much where all the famous SW quotes came from; like the whole “Luke, I am your father!” scene, all the Yoda quotes… almost everything from the original trilogy except “It’s a trap!”)
hmmm… it’s a toss-up between Episode IV and Episode V for me re: which is most iconic, Soul Man, but i’ll agree that Episode V is the better film, with deeper characters and harder science fiction! 🙂
Can’t agree with the Hoth Leia. That’s the one where she kissed her brother! I guess I’ll be unoriginal and stick with the masses: gold bikini Leia please.
heheh. true, but it’s also the one where she kissed Han, Menapace! but, you know, you can never go wrong with the gold bikini. 😉

Make this happen Disney! It’ll make my band trip to Disney World FRAKKING AWESOME!
