If you’d like to plant (not eat) your own tree to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day (April 22) this year, there are several websites you can order seedlings from, including:
• Mail-A-Tree
• The GreenWorld Project
And if you’re at or near Santa Clarita, CA this Saturday, April 17, I’ll be at the Earth Arbor Day Festival with my sister Laura (aka Lor), exhibiting JEFbot and giving a special Earth Day BOTton to the first 51 people who come by! I’m not sure where I’ll be at any given time during the festival, but I’ll be updating my Twitter feed regularly to let you know my whereabouts. Give me a tweet if you decide to stop by!
When: Saturday, April 17th, 2010 10:00am to 5:00pm
Where: Newhall Park – 24933 Newhall Ave
First!
woo! 😎
Thanks Jefbot but somehow, i hate this.
Not that I mind being first, in fact im exhilirated.
Its just that in the future I will be writing full posts, not just *First!* thingy. If somebody beats me to it, then so be it.
This is years old story but once my own sweet dad wanted to have some onion and he ate mums tulips. I succesfully evaded that fate. Mum was realy upset later, she bought highest quality tulips and it cost her. I still cant figure out why dad ate it when he was complaining it has no/odd flavour. I guess he was hungry.
I wish enjoyeable Earth day o all participants.
Wow, your dad is super lucky. LOTS of bulbs are really poisonous. I guess tulips aren’t among them.
WOW… my mother would kill my father if he did that… did he got off lucky?
Some of those tulips survived so she focused her attention on preserving them. I belive we still have some offsprigs of those in our garden.
yeah, i’d just keep the “First” thing casual, so it stays fun.
HA! too bad those tulips didn’t taste good, what with your mom spending good money on them, Maryz. i’m sure the “offspring” in the garden must serve as a reminder of your dad’s folly. heheh.
yay! happy earth day (almost!)!
This was a nice run down of all the food, to which I am going to have to read up about what everything consists of. (And darnit! I’m hungry now! 😛 ) The facial expressions in the 6th and 7th panel had me giggling. (You have quite a way with drawing them.) Looks like JB and CF are gonna have to get Lor some more seedlings. Oops. 😛
Wish I lived in Cali, because I would so check out the Earth Arbor Day Festival and get me one of those BOTtons. (Along with getting to meet one of my favorite webcomic artists, which will hopefully happen when you get your book together 😀 ) Probably not gonna happen, but if there’s any leftover BOTtons, is there a possibility of getting one? Great strip, mister!
i’d recommend pretty much all the food in this strip, Spanky, so definitely look ’em up! the only thing i’m not super fond of is the takuan, but i’ll still eat it if my mom puts it on the table.
the Earth Arbor Day Festival was great! my sis and i had a blast. as for the BOTtons – i did keep a few for myself. lemme get back to you. 🙂
Woo hoo! Can’t wait for Earth Day on Saturday. See ya at Newhall Park.
woo! the festival was awesome, sis! 😀
Cornfather’s eyebrow in panel 6 made me laugh…because it’s shaped kind of like the graph of an inverse cosine.
heheh. maybe the Cornfather’s doing math that we don’t even know about, Kerubim! 😉
nice (new) avatar, btw.
I really need to stop reading this first thing in the morning before breakfast.
The close-up detail on the food is pretty nice–I didn’t know it was possible to make drawn food look appetizing.
thanks, Sharra! glad my drawings were appetizing! heheh.
and for the Earth Day thingy, i blew this strip up to 5 feet long to display at the booth, which made the food here bigger than life size. …was trying to eat the inarizushi all day. 😉
Haha ‘Bot. I think you are a little bit more adventurous in the food world. XD
i do like a lot of different foods, DJ, except for really hot stuff. my mouth just can’t take it. 🙂
Love it! 🙂
was wondering what you might think of this one, sacobin! 😀
Love in the first panel how the Cornfather is standing there wiggling his fingers in tasty anticipation!! LOL hahaha
glad you loved that bit of the Cornfather’s “acting” cuz i really dug drawing that, ESQ! 🙂
OMG, this strip is so awesome! I love it! So I’ve gotta ask – Is this one autobiographical or fictional? 😉 My friend’s mom ate her husband’s PhD research project strawberries once. THAT didn’t go over well, but at least they were something that was intended to be edible!
I’m glad to see you are an Earth Day celebrant. I love earth day and get to put together events for work every year. This year we are seeing the movie Addicted to Plastic (I think that’s the title). I am really sad that I don’t live in CA tho. It would be so much fun to come meet you and Lor at that event. I ditto Spanky’s request for any leftovers! I would so love an Earth Day BOTton!
Oh yea, I forgot to request pics from the Earth Arbor Day fest and maybe a blog post!
i’m hoping to do a blog post about it with pics this week!
happy you liked the strip, Shanna! and although the food’s real, the Cornfather and jefbot eating the seedlings is completely fabricated. but it COULD’ve happened! heheh.
so glad that your friend’s mom’s husband’s project was intended to be edible. eating strawberries intended for a “research project” sounds like it could’ve gone horribly, HORRIBLY bad!
that’s cool that you do Earth Day stuff – i haven’t seen Addicted to Plastic but i’ll try and check it out. you definitely would’ve had a great time at the festival. and i’ll see what i can do about getting you an Earth Day BOTton!
“They have these at the Sizzler.” LOL
i knew someone would like that line, Jeff. heheh. glad it was you.
This strip made me hungry.
As for Earth day, maybe there’s something to be done around here. I’ll ask friends.
y’know, i could go for some sushi or something myself, Jaeh. heheh. hope you got something tasty to eat.
and let me know if you do anything cool for Earth Day! even if that just means taking shorter showers or being more mindful of what you can recycle. 🙂
OMG i almost had coca cola come out of my nose! *Note* read comic first, then drink soda!*
Oh the look on Jeff and CF’s face’s in panel six say it all! It’s that “Oh crap, So and So’s been experimenting. Ok I love them so I should at least try it” look. Yeah the entire family had that look on one Thanksgiving when Daddy decided he wanted to get creative with the family meal. Yeah…we had a family meeting the next year and voted on NO MORE experimentation on Holiday dinners.
I hope to be doing some planting in the next few weeks.
ha! sorry for the soda-in-the-nose, Pixie. heheh.
i’m sure it will come up in future strips, but the Schuetze Ladies do have a thing about experimenting with food. especially Laura. sometimes these experiments come out fantastic, sometimes they come out… less so. 😉
let me know if you do any planting! i’m thinking about posting stuff people do for Earth Day in the blog.
Awesome strip bro. Wish I could pop in on Saturday, definitely need one of those awesome BOTtons to add to my collection. However, I will be down in Whittier tomorrow supporting my brothers in harmony. Have fun though!
As for the strip, I have to say, I think the expression in panel 6 is one of my favorites to date. I also got a chuckle out of CFs excitement in the first panel…his wiggling fingers couldn’t wait to nom some tasty treats. Great job!
no sweat, man. i’m sure there will be many more appearances in the future (hopefully with a JEFbot book to sell!). hope you had a good time in Whittier.
and: thanks! glad you liked the cartooning in those panels. 🙂
sorry sister lor, not your day for saving our oxygen huh? wonder what she’s going to beat you with.
yes, thank the gods Lor didn’t hit jefbot in the eye, Animie fan!
Michael’s expression is funny as hell *LOL*
Ha! Strange food! Makes it easier for anything nearby to get eaten as well.
In Earth day… I will eat my veggies >__< Also got a couple of trees to get "planted" on Puerto Rico's rainforest: El Yunque. The kids at the University got this "Give Life to El Yunque" project and have been a blast for what I saw. I got to get my combat boots to climb up there and plant my trees, though. No way I'm gonna go with my girly victorian-goth platform boots *LOL*
which expression, Sonitan? the “wiggly fingers” one or the “munch, crunch” one?
that’s AWEsome about the “give life to el yunque” project! let me know how that goes – especially if you do it in your platform boots. 😉
Oh most excellent! Though I can’t say I blame them for eating it, asian food is bloody weird, it’s like if it’s edible it goes on a plate! Yum.
Famines ya know? anything technically edible, they eat it. ah asia if not one thing another.
yeah, some of it gets pretty weird, Steve. but much of it is delicious! the older i get, the more i can appreciate it. i mean, i used to HATE tofu, but now i just mildly disdain it. i kid, i kinda like it now. 🙂
Earth Day!
woo!
I am engorged with Venom!
what kind of Venom, Xin? evil? rattlesnake? spider-man villain?
FOOD! Never eat anything unless you know, or have someone know, what it is. Mix-ups are easy!
Today, I have Earthling cookies!
true that, Rinthia! and that rule is doubly important around Asian food! sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s actually food and what isn’t.
mmMMm! cookies!
eat it anyway.it’ll return to the earth in one form or the other.
heh. true dat, t_d. 🙂
Ha! I guess that’s what happens when you try to eat healthy…
Great strip Jefbot! Happy Earth Day!
thanks, Funnyshaffer! and yep, jefbot should just stick to fast food. 🙂
hahaha……and dats how u should celebrate earth day. eat it……also i love dr horrible sing along…..how did i even missed it….
ha! not sure how changing the “plant a tree” campaign to “eat a tree” would go over, JF#300. 😉
and yes, Dr. Horrible’s completely rad!
How was the Earth Arbor Day Fest? I was thinking of you and Lor and wishing I could be there.
thanks! wish you were there too, shanna! it was fun and a lot of cool activities (tree planting, measuring your carbon footprint, music, etc.) were happening the whole day. i’m sure you and your son would’a had a blast. 🙂
Carbon footprints is another thing we do at work for Earth Day. There is a competition to get the lowest footprint, and the winners’ names go on a plaque. This will be the 3rd year we’re doing it. Mine’s always in the lower half, but I’ve never been anywhere near winning. Some of these people have insanely low footprints! Like never-drive-a-car low.
You should be careful with Japanese food. Because it all looks like plants to me
plants, rice and slimy, fishy things, IDTMRB. 😉
XD love the looks on your faces guys, and you can never be TOO sure what they put in japanese food (even though i LOVE sushi) yet another great strip from JB
::Leithal::
i love sushi too, Leithal. which reminds me – i haven’t had it in a while. may have to walk up to the sushi joint near my apartment and have some unagi (my favorite!) soon!
you have a sushi bar close to your apartment? lucky…. the closest one is a two-and-a-half hour drive for me 🙁 ah well i hope its darn good sushi
::leithal::
Sorry to be glomming up the comments for this strip – but I just realized that it looks like the Cornfather has a pot leaf in his chop sticks! I thought he was still holding a seedling when I first read it, but I just realized that it was the leaf on his shirt! Ha ha. Was that intentional?
Does anyone care? Wait a little and it will come to you
TOTALLY unintentional, Shanna! he just happens to have the chopsticks by his shirt icon in those last two panels. heheh.
Congratulations on the Earth Day gig, bot. This strip is perfect for it!! Not only is it for Earth Day but it’s also a great lesson in Asian food. And, of course, it’s funny to boot! I got to see the 5 foot poster when I got home the other night and I think it needs to be in a museum!
aww, thanks man. hope the fumes from the mounting of that poster weren’t too intense. the foam core and glue were definitely *not* green! 🙁
*still campaigning for ‘Pluto day’*
Revolve In Peace. 😉
(on a nearly side note, even as a Marylander, you know what surprised me as very good sushi? Blue crab! It’s awesome stuff. Just..don’t add soy sauce to blue crab rolls. Yick.)
i’m ALL for “Pluto Day” Holaved!!! that trans-Neptunian object gets no respect!
and next time i’m in Maryland, i’ll give those blue crab rolls a try. 🙂
It gets all respect it deserves. Its a twin-dwarf planet Pluto-Charon and body of Cuipers belt. Anythig else is just unreasonable.
Do you consider Ceres to be as important as pluto? No why? I would venture a guess you dont even know what it is yet importance and classification of Pluto-Charon is being talked about for three decades. There is no real reason for it.
although i do have a certain fondness for Pluto, both Holaved’s “winky face” and my quoting of Rodney Dangerfield when referring to “Pluto Day” implied our tongues were at least somewhat in cheek, Maryz. seriously.
Jup, I noticed, this topic just gets me riled up. No flaming your way intended guys.
None taken, I assure you!
Fact of the matter is, I really just wax nostalgic for the little guy. I think my mom and dad still have the solar system place mats that they bought for my sisters when *they* were little, depicting the nine planet solar system.
Science changes often -as it should- this I know.
But while it’s always neat to gain things (I can remember when nanites were science fiction. I LOVE knowing Sci-Fi is now real!!), it always sucks losing something, at least a little. Even if it’s just something as silly as a planet status.
It was nostalgia, bad jokes, and nothing more from me too. I promise! ^^
On another related note, I am NOT sitting here with a copy of Dava Sobel’s ‘The Planets’ in front of me. Nuh-uh. Nope…. ^^;;
(I love being a nerd!)
Damn you are making me hungry!
sorry, Stan! 😉
Hilarious! So Funny!!
