So our last (and first!) poll closed with a big win for Hoth Leia (woo!) as your favorite Leia! See the rest of the results here. You may find ’em surprising. Our new poll ties into the JEFBOT.473_Dishing it Out comic strip, so go check that out if you missed it. Since I’m not sure I could choose just one cereal as my favorite, I’ve expanded this poll to give you three of your top cereal picks, so use ’em wisely. Also, if you don’t see your favorite cereal here (they were chosen from the comments section of JEFBOT.473) let me know in the comments for this poll and I’ll add it. This one will only run ’til next Sunday (December 2, Midnight) so vote for your favorite sugary, bran-y, oat-y, soggy, frosted and/or crunchtastic cereal now!
This poll inspired by the strip: JEFBOT.471_Fan Worshipfulness. If your favorite Leia isn’t listed below (Bespin Leia, Boushh Leia, etc.) write your choice in the comments, and I’ll add the option to the poll if it gets two votes or more.
EDIT: 11/24/2012 – Poll Closed. Wow! With 387 votes, I’d say we got a good sampling of opinions on which Leia is the favorite! I’m very surprised (and delighted!) that Hoth Leia came in #1 by a pretty decent margin. Also surprised that Endor Leia got pretty close to besting Gold Bikini Leia and that Bounty Hunter Leia did so well, even after being added so late. Thanks for all the votes, folks. Now on to the Cereal poll!
EDIT: 11/14/2012 – Added Cloud City and Bounty Hunter Leia.
Vote for your favorite Leia!
- Hoth Leia (Episode V) (28%, 107 Votes)
- Gold Bikini Leia (Episode VI) (20%, 78 Votes)
- Endor Leia (Episode VI) (17%, 64 Votes)
- Speeder Bike Leia (Episode VI) (10%, 39 Votes)
- Bounty Hunter/Boushh Leia (Episode VI) (9%, 33 Votes)
- Cloud City/Bespin Leia (Episode V) (7%, 27 Votes)
- Star Wars Leia (Episode IV) (7%, 26 Votes)
- Baby Leia (Episode III) (3%, 13 Votes)
Total Voters: 387
Some of you know that in addition to working on JEFbot and my occasional acting gigs, I have a full-time job as a multimedia designer for a big corporation. Well, I suppose I should amend that to had since, as of this week, I’m out of a job. Apparently, the company I worked for thinks it wise to dismantle the skilled, tight knit and well-oiled team (10 years in the making) and replace us with an outsourced group to cut some costs. Or something. It wasn’t really explained to us all that well. Anyway, that sucks big time, and while I won’t miss the corporate mentality, the long drive (70 miles there and back), and some of the more tedious projects, I will miss the people in my department, as they were some of the smartest, most talented and straight-up coolest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Oh, and I’ll miss the steady paycheck, of course.
The silver lining to all this suckiness, however, is that I can now devote much more energy and time to JEFbot, which should mean more strips on a more consistent schedule, a new BOTshop stocked with all kinds of BOTgoodies, more intricate storylines and artwork, more blogs, vids and social stuff, and basically just more JEFbot for your entertainment!
I’ve been wondering for a long time now just what would happen to my little ol’ webcomic if I could devote some real, full-time attention to it, and now – while the circumstances are unfortunate – I’ll get a chance to find out. While I’m kind of in a state of shock at the moment, and can’t help but be anxious about things like rent, health insurance and car payments, I also feel tremendously excited about what happens next. How can I not? You readers have already given me a strong foundation with which to make JEFbot even bigger and better; without the enthusiasm and support you’ve shown over the past few years, I don’t think I’d even give this crazy plan a try. But, you know what? I’ve been given this opportunity, so I’m going to take it. And while I can’t say I won’t be spending time working on auditions or finding another job, I will say that, for the time being, JEFbot is my job.
With the worldwide recession going strong, I know a lot of you out there can relate to my situation, so know that I feel very fortunate to have such an outstanding group of readers keeping me passionate and hopeful about the future. Having a supportive group of family and friends is also something I’m thankful for every day. So with your readership and support, let’s see what can happen! I have a few things to settle over the next week before I can start going 100%, but know that this is an exciting time to be a BOTreader, and you should hold onto your butts and get ready for the next phase of JEFbot!
Apologies for the AWOL nature of the strip the past several days, loyal BOTpeeps! Some of you may know I’ve been swamped due to exhibiting at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo this past weekend. While I love an excuse to get out of the BOTcave and talk to fans and sell my wares, it’s a huge undertaking due to all the prep work that goes into these things, especially since I was hell-bent on debuting three new items at the show. The good news is, although I was up for 48 hours straight at one point, I got everything done on time and even made some changes to the BOTbooth that I’ve been wanting to do for a while now. The bad news is, I’m completely depleted, and having to go into work today and be functional and alert isn’t helping. Thank the gods for coffee.
So a little about the show: I had an awesome time! Thanks to all the readers who came out and said hi and/or bought some of the new BOTmerch! You all made this a fun, successful convention, and, like I’ve mentioned before – I couldn’t do this without you. Conventions are such black holes of time, expense and energy, that if I didn’t have you supporting me with your presence and purchases, I just flat-out wouldn’t be able to do them.
As for the new merch, I’ll go into more detail when it’s available in the upcoming, new and improved BOTshop! But for now, I’ll just say the new printing of the JEFBOT VOL 1. books (softcover and hardcover!) got here in time, the new Musashi & Yuki print made its debut (eliciting an “awwww” from many a passerby) and a sneak peak at some JEFbot-themed jewelry (kinda) which I’ll officially reveal soon.
With all that said, I’m still debating whether or not I’ll be back next year. Being in downtown L.A. makes the logistics of getting my booth there much easier than the cons I’ve done in Seattle, Phoenix and San Diego, but honestly, I do much, much better at those shows than Comikaze. Add to that the price of my booth going up next year since they’re adding another day and I’m just not sure if it’ll be worth the cost for me, although I’m unhappy about not seeing the BOTreaders I’ve grown to know over the past two years of this con. I’ve also been thinking about adding a show in Denver, CO next year, and that might replace Comikaze for me. Still debating.
Anyway, big thanks to everybody who came by the BOTbooth and the readers who came by the BOTsite while I was away. Oh, and some additional thanks to my buddy Joe for helping me set up and attend the booth this weekend! I swear having a helper makes things sooo much easier; I don’t know if I’ll be able to do another con without one, seriously. And special thanks to Mombot and my sister Lor (with friend, Steph) for coming to the show. If you were there and saw a little Japanese lady with a BOTshirt on accompanied by a couple ladies, that was probably them. Heheh.
If I don’t pass out at my computer tonight, I should have a new JEFbot strip up tomorrow! But forgive me if it gets posted later in the day.
LAST CHANCE to see Star Wars Saga in 60 Minutes
by shootzee on August 16, 2012 at 10:50 pmIf you’re in or around Los Angeles this weekend then make sure you go and see Star Wars Saga in 60 Minutes directed by Patrick T. Gorman, my uber-talented buddy who also just happened to write the foreword to the first JEFbot book! (New printing available soon, hopefully.) I also don’t have to introduce Michael Cornacchia – the original inspiration for The Cornfather – whose laugh-out-loud portrayals of Jabba the Hutt, Admiral Ackbar and Nute Gunray, among other characters, are not to be missed. And, hey, I created the poster for the show – a riff on the classic Return of the Jedi poster – which was an honor!
As you can probably discern from the title, ALL SIX Star Wars movies are performed onstage in sixty minutes using minimal, clever costumes, wiffle bat lightsabers, folding chair X-Wings and Force Acting. It doesn’t seem possible, but it is; I’ve seen it. In fact, I’ve seen the original Star Wars Trilogy in 30 Minutes countless times – well, at least over 20 times, so I can vouch for its hilarity. Also, the addition of the Prequels does not disappoint. In fact, I can truthfully say that I’ve never enjoyed the Prequels as much as I did during this production, so get thee to the theater! This weekend’s the last chance you’ll have to see this run in Los Angeles, so go buy tickets now. Here’s the info:
Star Wars Saga in 60 Minutes
KL Peters Auditorium (BHHS)
241 Moreno Drive
Beverly Hills, CA 90212

If you plan on going, either Tweet me or let me know in the comments below – I’m hoping to see it again either Saturday night (Aug 18, 8pm) or Sunday afternoon (Aug 19, 2pm) so it’d be fun to get a tweet-up going.
